Great short season finished 2 on the ladder.

Here are the stats:

  • 22 points, 73% Win Ratio
  • 7 wins, 1 draw, 2 losses
  • Anna Clothier top goal scorer for WPB on 8 goals, Bridget and Fran on 3 goals.
  • We scored 22 goals (top for WPB)
  • We only let in 8 goals

Stats aside, it was a great season with an awesome bunch of people with a good mix of experience and youth. Special thanks go to Liz Murphy for sharing her super manager skills.

We had lots of fun both on and off the field, lets hope we can get back out there soon.

Women Pennant E - Tony Dudley

2021 can be considered a successful year for the new Pennant E team, promoted after winning Pennant F in 2019. Bursting out of their skins to play, the team instantly found success scoring 18 goals in the first 4 rounds. We began to build a style of play that was inclusive, showed off a great style of controlled hockey and enabled each player to understand and play their role in the team.

This started with the superb half and back line which only allowed a measly 5 goals in 10 games. A new player to the club, however, a very experienced goal keeper, Flossy directed traffic at the back supported by Bluey and Dish and together they were simply formidable. The half line of Alice O, Pip, Leesa and Lue followed this up with good direction and interplay between the forwards and the backs.

Likewise our forwards also had a strong year scoring 30 goals in the 10 games, with Kim and Gabby leading the way and supported by Emma and Penny, both new to the forward line. The engine room of the team - Bailey, Alice W and Victoria - literally did not stop running, although Alice came off second best with a bicycle and missed a few games with a broken ankle.  Finally we had Cheryl, another newbie to the club, who through her versatility managed to play in all positions.

With 9 rounds played we were undefeated on top of the ladder heading into what would ultimately be the final round. A tight encounter ensued against second placed Waverley, only to go down 1-0. This left us in 2nd position and with the season ended, no chance to seek redemption in the finals.

All is not lost however, as we have been promoted to Pennant D in 2022 and this is great recognition of a solid year and meets one of the goals of the women’s section for 2021.

Thanks to Trish for taking on the team manager role and a special thanks to Claire Douglas who coordinated the Wednesday night trainings.
