Student Leadership Workshop

Despite the online circumstances, the annual leadership workshop proceeded to take place last Friday. Although in many ways the workshop was different from previous years, it still allowed for the Student Leadership Team to expand their understanding about leadership and look forward to the next 12 months. The day began with the group reflecting on what leadership meant to us, with many touching on their understanding of leadership being for the service of others. We then looked to the actions of the greatest leader of all, Jesus, for inspiration and reflection on what we could improve in our own actions. After much discussion, it was evident that everyone in the group was willing and able to develop their leadership skills and work together as a team to develop as a whole.

After spending the morning reflecting on our own leadership, the group was joined by Dr Lavorato to answer some of the questions from the team, and discuss some of the goals for the year ahead. In this, she shared with us her many years of leadership experience, along with her well-versed knowledge of leadership and the most effective ways to lead. It was very clear that everyone from the team took away some valuable knowledge from our Q&A with Dr Lavorato and it will definitely prove to be useful in the coming year.

We also had the opportunity to work on developing the College theme for 2022. Although this would prove to be a difficult task, with the added factor of being remote, we were all up for the challenge.

To run a day like this requires hours of planning and preparation, and adding the factor of being remote on top, only makes such planning harder. On behalf of the entire 2022 Student Leadership Team, I sincerely thank Ms Santiago for the numerous hours she put into planning and preparing for the day, and then for giving up her consolidation day to help better prepare us for the year ahead. I also thank Mr Newman for giving up his time to be and work with us, along with Dr Lavorato for taking time to answer all of the group’s questions. The entire 2022 Student Leadership Team look forward to working with the College community in the year to come.
