Shining Our Light (SOL) Service Update

All boys from Year 5 to Year 10 and their parents/carers are reminded that SOL Service points are to be finalised by Friday 5 November. Boys need to show their College diary with all initiatives/activities, signed off by parents/carers or the responsible person, to their Homeroom/Class Teacher by the due date. The due date will not be extended. If it is not completed by then, it is considered not done. I remind everyone in the community about the integrity that underpins this service – the need for all of us to be honest in the process.

With the revised points for 2021 due to restrictions for part of the year, boys need the following number of points to be recognised as completing the SOL Service:

  • Years 5 and 6 – five points
  • Years 7 and 8 – seven points
  • Years 9 and 10 – eight points.

To earn an ‘Extra Service Award’, students need to have earned the points above, plus 15, 30 or 50 points in addition, for the different level of award. All points need to be recorded by the Homeroom/Class teacher by the due date to be recognised.

For the program to be deemed complete, each boy also needs to fill in the Reflection on page 22 of the College Diary and have it signed by his parents/carers.

Questions can be sent to: SOLservice@spc.nsw.edu.au.

Boys do not need to wait until next year to start their service for 2022. SOL Service now runs from 6 November 2021 to November 2022 – plenty of time to complete the original number of points (outlined in the College Diary), and probably to earn an Extra Service Award. (Year 11 Social Justice Service is different and will be explained to Year 10 soon.) While waiting for the new 2022 College Diary to record points, just keep a record on a sheet of paper and then transfer across at the start of next year. SOL Service for 2022 will run based on the original program – see College Diary, Canvas, or the Parent Portal on Sentral for details. It will not be this year’s revised program.

Congratulations to all boys who have worked hard to complete the program and especially those who went above and beyond.
