Around The Primary

Dear Parents

This week we have had our Year Six students and some of our dedicated staff in Canberra learning all about our Nation’s history, culture, heritage and democracy. It has been wonderful being able to receive updates outlining their adventures by accessing Canberra News each day through ‘Sway’. We are looking forward to seeing them next week and listening to stories about their extraordinary time away. We did miss them! A big thank you to our terrific staff Miss DePinto, Mrs Goss, Mrs Fontaine, Miss Joyce, Mrs Murphy and Mr Fromm for making themselves available to accompany the students enabling them to have such a wonderful experience.

There have been some exciting events taking place at school this week too. On Monday, our PrePrimary students treated their Marvellous Mums to a pampering morning. Our Year Five students experienced delicious Japanese cuisine at ‘Cheers’ Japanese restaurant and our Year One students were mesmerized by their Spineless Wonders experience.

Marvellous Mums

On Monday, the PrePrimary Mums enjoyed an extended Mother’s Day celebration! The PrePrimary students treated their Mums to a morning of pampering. The Marvellous Mums enjoyed shoulder massages and manicures. They had their portraits painted and had their child make them beautiful necklaces and delicious biscuits decorated with LOTS of goodies! It was a lovely morning for everyone.

Japanese Cuisine

This week the Year 5s participated in a culinary Japanese excursion at ‘Cheers’ restaurant in Subiaco. Upon their arrival, they were greeted by friendly staff and instructed to take off their shoes. The students were then shown to their seats in the restaurant, they loved the traditional furniture! While waiting for their meal, many of the students decided to practise using their chopsticks. Some of them had a pretty good handle on them, while others resorted to eating with the humble fork. After a short wait, lunch was served. Steamed Rice, Teriyaki Chicken, Potato Salad and Miso Soup. YUM! The students celebrated their meal together by raising their glasses and shouting ‘Kampai!’, the Japanese term for cheers.

A big thank you goes to the restaurant staff and, most importantly, Sensei Aghdasi for organising this amazing experience. The Year 5 students and staff give ‘Cheers’ two thumbs up and highly recommend this dining experience to any fellow lovers of the Japanese cuisine and culture.

Spineless Wonders

The Year Ones were very lucky to have entomologist David from Spineless Wonders visit their classes. He brought his amazing collection of minibeasts for the children to explore and told them many interesting facts.  The children were so excited to see and hold these incredible insects.
