Dear Parents,

The College is working closely with Catholic Education Western Australia (CEWA) and health authorities to monitor the Coronavirus situation and then following the advice for schools relating to COVID 19.

These are unsettling times and I understand that parents are concerned. Our priority is to ensure that every precaution has been taken to keep our children as safe as possible at school. We have discussed the importance of hand hygiene with the students and have hand sanitizers in all classrooms.

It would be very helpful if parents reinforced the importance of washing hands regularly, particularly after using the toilet or before eating and also the need to sneeze into our elbows or into tissues with children at home as we will continue to do at school.

It is also important for parents to remain calm and reassuring to give your child/ren a sense of security. Listening to the concerns of your children and acknowledging the feelings they are expressing. Some of the key messages to include in your family conversations are as follows:

Putting the virus in perspective – it is unlikely they will get sick and if they do they will go to the doctor. Most children have mild symptoms and will be well again.
Doctors and others are working on solutions.
Empowering children with what they can do; washing their hands and being careful with personal hygiene.

Photo Catch Up Day - 3P Photography

Students who were absent for Photos on Tuesday and Wednesday are able to attend the 3P Photography studio in Malaga on Wednesday 18 March for a ‘catch-up shoot’.

Project Compassion

We are so proud of the enthusiasm and generosity of our school community in supporting our fundraising project for Caritas.

We have made a fantastic start and students have enjoyed emptying their bucket of coins into the well each Friday and also attaching a water droplet.

We look forward to the continued excitement and engagement in our fundraising initiative in the coming weeks.

Book Worms!

Students around the Primary School are enjoying our Reading Initiative for 2020 and we also are receiving many positive reports from parents.

It is wonderful to hear conversations amongst students about authors and books they are reading. Our Library staff are thrilled that books are being borrowed and returned over and over again! Classroom teachers continue to work with students to keep them motivated and engaged and, of course parents, play an integral role in supporting their children’s reading at home.

In the Junior Primary classrooms, our teachers are supported by various staff in delivery of targeted literacy programs. Our goal is to ensure the ongoing literacy development in the early years.

Sports Update

IPSHA Interschool Swimming Carnival

The IPSHA Interschool Swimming Carnival takes place on Thursday 19 March at Newman College. Training on Tuesday afternoon in the College pool is open to all swimmers in the Interschool squad who would like extra practice for their events.

Please remember to purchase College bathers and a College swimming cap for the Carnival.

Mouthguard fitting

In preparation for winter sports there will be the opportunity to have a mouthguard fitted and made by professional dentists at Custom Mouthguards on Tuesday 17 March and Wednesday 18 March in the College gym from 7:30am to 8:30am. Please refer to the attached form for further information.

Pro Football Training

On Tuesday afternoon we had a fantastic turnout for the soccer session with Pro Football Training’s ‘Coach Andy’. Over 40 students attended and had lots of fun playing soccer games. If you were unable to make it on Tuesday but are interested in upcoming sessions, please refer to the flyer and get in contact with Andy at Pro Football Training.
