What's Happening in the Classroom .......

Year 5 Log Cabin Camp 2019

What a wonderful camp experience Year Fives had this year in Creswick. Perfect activity weather awaited us as we arrived at the spacious and entertaining site. Greeted warmly by the lovely staff, we were so excited to kickstart our long, anticipated adventure!

Firstly, our cabin groups and activity groups were revealed to us and we enjoyed our first snack time together whilst inhaling the fresh air and checking out our surroundings. The Dual Ziplining activity was a great chance for us to have fun with our friends and involved multiple actions such as throwing balls, holding hands and even going upside down!

The Giant Swing was definitely a highlight, allowing us to safely experience an extreme activity which at times was nerve wracking but always exciting! Peals of laughter and screams could be heard from across the entire camp site!

The Commando course really encouraged us to use our teamwork skills and we partnered up for this quite physical and demanding station, using ropes and tyres to pull, balance and manoeuvre in order to finish the course- it was exhausting but exhilarating!

Out on the camp pond, with a partner, we tested our canoeing skills, working together to try and paddle in the same direction and prevent ourselves from capsizing! It was hilarious as we saw some of our friends fall into the water and lose their paddles. They managed to remain calm and hop back in- they encourage resilience in us at Wheelers Hill!

The Leap of Faith activity was new to all of us- it forced us to confront fears we didn’t even know we had when we jumped off a high ledge into mid air and tried to tap a ball. Mrs Drury and Mr Stockton really showed us strong leadership when they both had a go at this- they were really impressive!

Our day at Sovereign Hill was a fantastic day out and shouts of “Eureka” could be heard as Charlotte, Jasmine and others found gold! The gold panning taught us to be tenacious as it was difficult to spot and there were only tiny flecks of gold to reward us for our patience.

Shopping was the ultimate experience as we all unleashed our inner spending when we were allowed to spend up to $25 at many of the shops. Old fashioned lollies, wristbands, t-shirts, boomerangs and bakery items were popular as we all really enjoyed the freedom to move around each of the various shops and make our own decisions as to what we wanted to purchase.

The Candle Dipping was such a creative and fun experience where we could showcase our creativity and individuality- we just loved it!

The Mine Tour was important as it was really important for us to learn about Australia’s history and the challenges the miners faced- we have certainly gained a much deeper appreciation of our nation’s earlier days.

Overwhelmingly, our 2019 Log Cabin camp was a spectacular opportunity for each and every one of us and we would like to take this opportunity to thank our wonderfully caring and tireless teachers for making this the fantastic learning experience that it was- we have learnt a LOT about Australia’s beginnings but most importantly, about ourselves and how we can face challenges with determination and courage!
