PROFESSIONAL LEARNING COMMUNITIES

This term the year Level Leaders, Michael and I have been participating in Professional Learning Communities (PLC) training. This program is conducted over 8 days and has been a wonderful opportunity for the level leaders to work collaboratively designing and undertaking a project focusing on improving student outcomes.

Building a PLC is a proven way for schools to increase student learning by creating a culture that is:

  • focused on continuous improvement by linking the learning needs of students with the professional learning and practice of teachers
  • committed to professionalism
  • fuelled by collaborative expertise (taking collective responsibility for all students)
  • focused on curriculum , pedagogy and assessment
  • using data to support instructional decisions

With three mores sessions to go we are looking forward to sharing our learning with our colleagues at school.

CLASSROOM HELPERS

Thank you to all the parents who have helped out this term working in classrooms, assisting with excursions, helping out with Book Club,  being part of Parents Association, helping out at athletics sports, and school banking.  As a school, we value the help from our parent community.  You help to ensure the smooth running of our school and we very much appreciate your assistance.

SUSTAINABILITY

Hi my name is Izzie. Tara and I wanted to be sustainability captains because we love helping the environment.

Our Sustainability helpers go around the yard making the look a lot cleaner, they can be noticed by wearing green vests. We have lots of junior and senior students who are helping water the garden, sweep the leaves and pick up rubbish.

Lots of students are eating snack and lunch at the eating area. Our goal is to have no rubbish around the school by the end of the year.  You can help with this by having as little rubbish as possible in our lunchboxes. Now that we have started the sustainability program the school has never looked cleaner!

Next term we will be working with  Sustainability Victoria to become Resourcesmart and hopefully become a One-Star sustainable school.

My name is Tara and I am one of the Sustainability captains for 2019. I am really passionate about the environment because I would love to make the world a better place.

This year we are using the water buckets to collect the water to for our plants. Our plants are looking very healthy especially the new trees and shrubs that were planted between the basketball courts and the new portables.

We also have black and yellow recycle buckets in each classroom to help us to recycle bottles and plastics, community bins near the office to help with recycling and our new clothing and electrical hubs to help the wider community recycle.

We hope everyone continues to do their best to help Izzie and I try to make our school more sustainable. The world is a wonderful place. Please take care of it!
