From skiing downhill to uncontrollable laughter after we fell, cross country skiing at Lake Mountain was a wonderful camp. On 22 August, our Year 11 Outdoor and Environmental Studies class headed out on a 3-hour drive to Lake Mountain to spend two days cross-country skiing in the snow. On first seeing snow from the window, the bus was filled with excitement and eager shouts. We spent the first day building our cross country skills by learning to ski uphill, stop, fall and how to get back up again. We even saw snow falling for the first time and created some snowmen and snow angels. That night we prepared a very delicious dinner as a class in the evening.
The next day, we did a bit more cross country skiing and, of course, had a very intense snow fight in the fresh and lovely powder-like snow, then we returned home with a sigh and amazing memories. However, the most amazing thing that was seen in the snow was our resilience to get back up and try again continuously, even though we fell numerous times.
Ms Tagell and Ms Sofarnos were amazing mentors, both mentally and physically, and we thank them for a very enjoyable camp.

The Year 7 students participated in a Cricket session, hosted by Cricket Australia. We were joined by two Melbourne Renegades players.
During this session, we were given a series of different activities to do, testing our skill, speed, strength and stamina. The warm ups involved lots of throwing and catching, teamwork, ball work, cricket skills and more.
We also played some games in the MMC, which taught us about basic cricket skills: batting and fielding. There were also some relay races which involved running around cricket stumps while holding a cricket ball. And running with a bowl on a tee with one hand.
We thank Melbourne Renegades and Cricket Australia for this amazing session.

The Junior A Team lost to Mater Christi 1 in sudden death double over time 3-2! It was an amazing game with a nail biting finish.
The Senior team 1 defeated Academy of Mary Immaculate by 3-0 in the Grand Final. Gwen Lynch (Year 12) was named Most Valuable Player of the finals. Gwen is pictured above with Kiara Weerasekera (Year 12). As there is no more Senior 2018 SCSA sport tournaments, this was the last time these two champion lacrosse players were able to represent MSJ. We will miss them.

Last week, on the 29 August, seven junior netball teams, (A, B,C,D,E,F and G) went to the first SCSA juniors only netball competition. As we rocked up to Waverley Netball Centre, I felt a lot less intimidated than last year, there were a lot less people and they were all around my age. I was in the A team and almost immediately, on the court, we all gelled together really well. We won our first game and every other game after that, even after some close calls. Then came the semi finals which and even with some rough play by the other team, we managed to win. Lastly we had our Grand Final, we were nervous, but we knew we could win! With a lot of hard work and determination, we won! We had earned our trophy, and Ciara Nolan won best and fairest on our team. We went back to school very happy with the day we had and the games we played.

Last week seven teams of juniors students from Years 7 and 8, competed at a netball tournament for Synergy. The seven teams consisted of Team A through to Team G.
We spoke about our game plan and the process we were going to use on court to help us play well. We were motivated to be the ultimate winners of this competition.
At the end of the day we were very proud of what we had accomplished. Team A did a fantastic job and won the Grand Final in their division. It was a tough match but they fought really well for their win. Team G made a huge improvement from the start of the day until the end. They got into the semi-final but just missed out.
All MSJ teams had a fabulous day and we are all looking forward to doing it all again next year.

On Friday the 24th of August, I competed in the SCSA soccer tournament. It was a very exciting and fun day at Darebin Soccer Club enjoyed by the junior MSJ team. On the way there in the bus, all the juniors talked about our hope of winning at least one game. Everyone was very surprised and delighted that we ended the day undefeated and won the grand final!
It was very nerve racking at the start of the final game as we all wanted to win. We were so happy with the end result and the other MSJ teams were there to barrack for us, as well as our coach Miss Baka. Sophia Frangos, one of the junior captains, was awarded the most valuable player (MVP) of the whole junior tournament and we were all happy for her. Our whole team did a great job scoring at least 2-3 goals each game and not conceding any goals in by our oppositions. On the way home on the bus we all had big smiles on our faces. We were all so happy to have represented MSJ at this event and come home as the winners!

On 5 September, 6 students and Ms Sofarnos went to Athleta Gymnastics Club for the Inter-School Gymnastics Competition. We competed on four apparatus (bars, beam, floor and vault) and did very well as we placed first overall as a team, had a lot of fun and and enjoyed competing. The students that participated in the team were Maria Andrade-Diaz, Zahra Dib, Piper Cheswick, Alice Sulovski, Isabella Rizzoli and Maya Kamienowski. These students all did an amazing job and tried their very best and it definitely paid off.
