International Cadet Exchange 2018

On Friday 3 August, I flew to Sydney to meet up with LCDR Debra Shaw, CDTLS Matthew Pines and CDTPO Stephannie Bergquist. We then boarded a 21 hour flight to the United Kingdom stopping off in Abu Dhabi. Our first night in the United Kingdom was spent at a cadet training centre at Blackheath, London, meeting and waiting for cadets from U.S.A, UK, Sweden, Belgium, Hong Kong and South Korea to arrive.

After meeting all staff and cadets, we were off heading to the Sea Cadet Training Centre in Weymouth were we spent the week sailing, powerboating, rocking climbing and sightseeing.

On the Friday we traveled back to Blackheath via Stonehenge for a tour of the site. Once back in London, we spent our last week exploring around London and Portsmouth visiting places such as Royal Victoria Docks, H.M.S President, Tower of London, Portsmouth Historic Dockyards, London Bridge, St Paul's Cathedral, Stratford and Imperial War Museum.

This Exchange was one of the best experiences of my life. I now have 29 new cadet friends  from around the world that I talk to daily. If any cadet is thinking about applying for any International Exchange, do not hesitate, you will have the best time of your life.

I would like to thank LCDR Robert Hughes and LCDR Debra Shaw and the other two Australian Cadets for making sure that I came home safely.

Future Leader

Emilie Washington was recently honoured by being appointed as a Scout Leader for the 1st Point Cook Scout Group. Emilie picked the name Cliffie as her Scout Leader name, as on her first scout hike she fell off a cliff! Emilie follows a fine family tradition as her father Peter, is also a Scout Leader. (Emilie is pictured here with her Dad). Congratulations Emilie!
