The year is quickly coming to an end. There are many school and community functions before we head off on the Christmas break. Students will be excited about these upcoming activities coming our way. We start off with Japanese Day Friday 2nd November. Our Japanese Days have grown over the years and this has resulted in SBS Japanese Radio coming to record part of our day. Thank you to parent involvement in this initiative.
For a number of years Kingswood has been writing to the Department about the need for us to have improved facilities as we have outgrown the plans laid out in the 70’s. We have followed the prescribed process for about 3 years with no traction. After the State Election, the school community will take a different approach to be more, ensuring Kingswood gets its fair share of funding. As part of this process the school will work with a Department approved architect to develop master plans for improving the school facilities.
Congratulations to all our students who received certificates for participating in the UNSW tests. This year saw a record number of students participate. A special congratulations goes to Jeuno (5S) for winning a medal for coming first in one of the tests. He will be presented his award on November 24th at the Melbourne Convention Centre.
Well done Jeuno!
We are coming closer to the Energy Breakthrough Challenge. This parent run extracurricular activity is one of the biggest and hardest events children and families can participate in at Kingswood. Every parent who has ever taken part in it will say it is also one of the most rewarding. Students will be challenged by each other and themselves, to produce personal best times. They have been learning resilience and most importantly that nothing comes easily. You have to go through hard to get to easy. The team has done an amazing job this year of raising funds to support the program and build on it for future years. This year the team replaced one of the old cars with a new one. Well done to all involved.
We had a wonderful Art Fair and Book Show last weekend with many of our families attending. The Book Fair managed to raise over $1,000 for the school library and visitors were impressed with the quality of the Art Show pieces. Numerous hours went into the preparation of this event and I would like to thank Lucie Hill, Kerry Eeckman, Denise Stach and Alba Gomez for their efforts in making sure ‘we are here for the students’.
We have almost completed our planning process for 2019. All classroom teachers have been employed and we are currently in the process of recruiting a substantive Assistant Principal. For those teachers recently employed, they will find out where they are teaching over the coming weeks.
On a final note, I would like to remind parents to remain vigilant out the front and back of the school when driving. Please refrain from doing 3-point turns at the entrances. This is just dangerous, it will literally add a couple of minutes to continue driving along Plaza Crescent around to Howard Road. When driving in a high traffic area it is not all about what is convenient for you and consideration for the safety of our children and other community members should be at the forefront of your mind. Parents are reminded that they should not walk through the school car park when entering the school grounds. Please use the pedestrian walkways at all times. If you have even an inkling about it not being safe, don’t do it. Remember, ‘we are safe, friendly and organised’.
Have a great weekend everyone.
