Assistant Principals' Reports

Progress Reports

I hope that you have had a chance to view your child’s progress reports that were published on Compass last week.  Our Progress reports reflect student progress and achievement towards our College Positive Learning Behaviours:

  • Respects the Learning Environment
  • Shows perseverance and resilience
  • Uses technology to deepen knowledge and understanding
  • Uses feedback effectively
  • Asks questions for clarity
  • Works collaboratively
  • Demonstrates critical and/or creative thinking

Student progress towards the Positive Learning Behaviours could be a great conversation starter for our upcoming parent teacher interviews later in the term.

As we near the end of Term 1, this might be a timely reminder to check in with your child/ren regarding their equipment for school.  To ensure that all students are ready for a full day of learning, please check whether stationary items need replenishing, and also that they are in the habit of charging their laptops each evening, as these BYOD devices are an essential tool for  the 21st century school classroom.

Student Wellbeing at Emerald SC

Student wellbeing has always been a priority at Emerald SC. Staff in our Wellbeing centre are on hand to support our young people as they navigate their way through their busy lives. Digital media continues to be an issue. Last newsletter I shared a resource to help with parent/carer conversations with young people. Unfortunately, there continues to be times when students are misusing devices. Can I please request everyone have a conversation about the importance of appropriate social media use. Together we will get on top of this issue. In the meantime, our Wellbeing Department is on hand to support our young people.

Athletics Day

Athletics day is scheduled for Friday 1st April. This is always a great day. Students will be reminded closer to the date that they are not able to get food delivered to this event from any external food outlet. Students should bring enough food for the day with them or use the canteen at the athletics track.

School Photos

Proofing of photos has been completed and images have been uploaded to Compass. Hopefully the printing process has started. For any questions regarding school photos contact MSP Photography directly.

Buildings and Grounds update

Toilet damage – There has been ongoing issues surrounding the use of student toilets. As a result, the toilets in D block have been shut off for the time being while we investigate tamper proof facilities. We have been informed that there are some issues in the B block toilets, this is currently being addressed. If any student is aware of who may be causing the damage they can come and see me.

Building program – It has been exciting to see how the building program has been progressing. We are close to taking the library back and moving on to the next stage. When the main office/administration area is being refurbished we will be using B1 – the building next to the main office – as our office space. This temporary setting will allow us to continue supporting our community while we wait for the upgrades to be completed.

Locker movement – due to the building program we will be moving some students locker location in the coming weeks. Everyone this year is being adaptable when it comes to the building program and it is much appreciated.
