Project Compassion donations
Our Social Justice Leaders have delivered Project Compassion donation boxes to each Learning Community. We encourage children to place some money in the boxes so that by the end of Lent we can make a donation to Caritas Australia to support the wonderful work they do in caring for people in Australia and other countries.
Each week during Lent Caritas Australia features a story of a person who has faced great hardship. We learn how the generosity from people like our own community has helped with the development of skills and resources to make life better for that person.
This week Biru from India shares his story with us.
Biru's story
India
As a person with a disability living in remote India, Biru faced the prospect of a life of poverty and discrimination. With support from Project Compassion donations, he participated in entrepreneurship training and gained the skills to become financially independent.
Biru lives in a rural village in India. He lost mobility in one of his legs, after contracting polio as a child, which makes it difficult for him to walk. He managed to complete his education until grade six but was always dependent on his parents to get him to school because he was unable to walk so far on his own.
Over 26 million people who have a disability in India also live in poverty. A further 69 percent of the population living with a disability reside in rural areas, which makes access to support services, education and employment an even greater challenge.
Zooper Dooper Fridays
A reminder that the Social Justice Leaders are selling Zooper Doopers at lunchtime on Fridays will continue this term. The Zooper Doopers cost $1.00 each and all proceeds from the sales will go towards supporting our Social Justice initiatives this year.
Prayer for Ukraine to the Immaculate Queen of Peace
Most holy and immaculate Virgin,
Mother of Jesus and our loving Mother,
being his Mother,
you shared in his universal kingship.
The prophets and angels proclaimed him
King of peace.
With loving fervor in our hearts
we salute and honor you
as Queen of peace.
We pray that your intercession
may protect us and all people
from hate and discord,
and direct our hearts
into the ways of peace and justice
which your Son taught and exemplified.
We ask your maternal care
for our Holy Father
who works to reconcile the nations in peace. We seek your guidance for
our Presidents and other leaders
as they strive for world peace.
Glorious Queen of Peace,
grant us peace in our hearts,
harmony in our families and concord throughout the world.
Immaculate Mother,
watch over us and protect us
with your motherly love.
Amen.
May God bless us all and keep us safe.
