Principal's Message
By Jenny Hassett
We were hoping that we had heard the end of COVID when we entered the 2022 year, but not the case!
Unlike some schools, we have had only a small number of COVID cases in our school and are extremely thankful and appreciative to our parent community for supporting our COVID plan. It has been fantastic to see a bit of normality with our students at school learning and enjoying the company of all their peers. Fingers crossed for a great Term 2.
What a great morning it was for all our Grade 3-6 students who participated in the annual Cross Country event on Tuesday. I was so pleased to see the students really working hard to complete the course and how proud I was to see students supporting each other to finish the long journey. Many thanks to Jac Knowles, staff and her band of helpers who did a magic job. Congratulations to every child who completed the course. A great morning outside for everyone.
As you may be aware, the Victorian government announced a new mobile phone policy in 2020 that requires students to switch their phones off and securely store them away in the office during the school day. The new policy does not currently apply to wearables e.g. smartwatches and/or iPads BUT all notifications on such devices must be switched off.
Key reminders about devices and communication:
Reminder to parents that this Friday 1st April is School Photo Day. Please ensure your child is in correct school uniform for the class photo. If you are wanting a sibling photo, please make sure you have pre booked via Compass before Friday.
Enrolments for 2023 Preps have begun. If you have a sibling of a current student needing enrolment next year, then we ask that this is submitted as soon as possible to give us a clear indication of potential numbers and class sizes.
Each day there are a number of lunchboxes and drink containers left around the school. Most of these are quite expensive and are not named. Please ensure all school items are labelled including uniform.
Just a reminder that Term 1 finishes on Friday 8th April 2022 at 2.30pm. School returns on Wednesday 27th April. Please note that Monday 25th April is a public holiday for ANZAC Day and Tuesday 26th has been allocated as a mandated Curriculum Day. The staff at Rollins will be involved in a professional development day in the area of Literacy and Numeracy. Again, we try to tag these compulsory development days onto the end of a long weekend or holiday period in the hope that it makes it a bit easier for parents who may wish to be away on holidays.
REMINDER: Please be aware that your consent is required for various aspects of your child's schooling. These are annual permissions (e.g photos, local excursions etc) that we require for all children and are now available by logging onto Compass for each child. Unfortunately, many photos have been unable to be submitted to each newsletter this year due to no photo permission being granted for many children.
Tip: Open Compass in browser to get the screen image below. Select 'more' in the bottom right, then 'open in browser'.
