Dear Sacred Heart School Community

Gracious God

We pray for the people of Ukraine suffering from war.

May they be held in your loving care and protection and given

the strength to endure their suffering and hardship.

Transform the hearts and minds of those who perpetuate the

violence and aggression.

Grant wisdom to world leaders in advancing efforts toward peace:

may they not be compromised by self-interest and blind indifference.

We ask all this through the intercession of Our Lady of Perpetual Help

and in the name of your Son Jesus, and the

Holy Spirit, now and forever.

Amen

Sacrament of First Reconciliation

Congratulations to our Year Three students who received the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time last Thursday. Thank you to their 2021 and 2022 teachers Marie and Denise who prepared them so well and a special thank you to Father Eloysius for a beautiful Spirit Filled celebration.

Ash Wednesday/Lent

Yesterday our students participated in a Spirit Filled paraliturgy to celebrate Ash Wednesday. It was so comforting to be back in our beautiful Sacred Heart Church with Father Eloysius. A big thank you to Kate who organised this event.

We divided the school into two groups so that only three classes were in the church at any one time to minimize the spread of any possible Covid.

Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the season of Lent. Lent is the period of 40 days which comes before Easter in the Christian calendar. Beginning on Ash Wednesday, Lent is a season of reflection and preparation before the celebrations of Easter. By observing the 40 days of Lent, Christians replicate Jesus Christ's sacrifice and withdrawal into the desert for 40 days

A Polish Tradition (From Chris Kaszubski)

It will be Fat Thursday in Poland.

The perfect time to make your own Paczki! The outside is crisp; the dough is rich and delicate, like an orange-scented brioche.

We mark the day before Ash Wednesday as Fat Tuesday, a day to use up the oil in the house, so traditional foods for this day are fried, before we start the penitential time of Lent and six weeks of plain simple foods.

In Poland, the day to eat fried treats in preparation for Lent is the Thursday before Ash Wednesday, and on Fat Thursday, Poles will eat 100 million paczki!

It’s not just a matter of tradition, good luck is involved! According to culture.pl, a Polish proverb proclaims that

'Those who don’t eat a stack of pączki on Fat Thursday will have an empty barn and their field destroyed by mice.'”

Covid News

From the special bulletins these past three weeks, you will have noticed, that our students testing positive for Covid are predominately in our Year 4/5 and Year 3/4 classrooms. I please ask that parents of students in these classes watch their children closely for Covid symptoms and take the necessary steps if required. Apart from one student in these classes, I am not aware of any students who cannot wear a mask for a medical reason. Please be aware that we will be supplying masks to any student (apart from our exempted students) who do not come to school with a mask.

School Video Filming

Last Thursday, was a busy but exciting day in our school with photographers and video people spending the day capturing the "Life of our school". When published, the video will go on our school website promoting our Sacred Heart School community in all its wonder, passion, care and excitement. We will unveil the published video when it has been completed. In the meantime the link below will take you to some photos that were taken behind the scenes on the day of filming.

2023 Year Prep Enrolments

Year Prep 2023 enrolments officially open on Monday 7th March and close on Monday 20th June. We have already had a number of tours with prospective families late last year and so far this year. If you know of any families with a child starting school next year, spread the word about our school and encourage them to make contact or a school tour. Three students enrolled for next year are Ezra brother of Chloe, Aiden brother of Aleisha and Valentino brother of Roman.

Thank You

I would like to thank Peter and Anne Hall for their very kind donation to our school. Peter and Anne are the guardians of our Year Two student Cody. Peter and Anne's very generous donation is going towards fixing our sandpit, restocking tanbark under our adventure playground and installing a third flagpole and fixing an existing flagpole. On behalf of our community can I express my gratitude to Peter and Anne.

Congratulations

Congratulations to our Year One student Eklavya, his mum Nisha and dad Sudhir on the arrival of a second baby brother for Eklavya. As you can see from the photos, Eklavya is very proud and protective of his baby brother.
