Intermediate Boys Cricket
On Wednesday 3rd March we took our intermediate boys cricket team out again to compete in the Greater Western Region Division. We played two games, the first one being an elimination and the second being a consolation game.
The first game was against Horsham College. Although going down in this game the boys tried their hearts out but unfortunately Horsham were just too good for us. We lost the toss and were required to field first, Horsham got off to a great start but through the middle overs the boys pegged them back to only 123 after 14 overs but some great hitting by Horsham saw them get 27 off the last over to finish on 150 off their 15 overs.
With the bat, we started pretty well with Cy Robison – Cooper (19) and Alex Bennetts (22) getting us off to a solid start before both boys getting out. All our batters batted great with many of them getting 10+ runs before getting out. It just wasn’t enough to chase down Horsham’s 150. We managed to get to 80 off our 15 overs which is a solid effort considering the ability of multiple of the Horsham bowlers.
We were then given the opportunity to play a consolation game against Mortlake College. This game was unscored due to both sides deciding they wanted to have a fun game and give everyone a chance to bat and bowl which was fantastic to see. Every player had a lot of fun and the game was played in great spirit. Ben Allen was the highlight with bat in hand. After being promoted to the top of the order, he batted for a very long time before eventually hitting one in the air to get caught. In the field, Charlie Parr was the highlight with a screamer of a catch to dismiss a Mortlake batsman. Running back with the flight of the ball, he stuck out one hand and somehow held onto it. To go with his catch, he also smacked his first six ever when he was batting.
Overall, the day was fantastic. Both games were played in great spirits and the boys seemed to love the day. The list of boys is below, if you see them around have a chat to them about it they’ll be more than happy to tell you how they went.
