STUDENT WELLBEING

LOOKING AFTER OUR STUDENT HEALTH

Health At Risk behaviour

All Secondary Schools on the Peninsula have reported an increase in the use of Vaping in young people. Here at MESC, we are finding students from year 7 to year 12 using vapes. When we speak to the younger students in particular, they say they are curious, trying to be like their friends and they don’t think they are that harmful. When we explain the health risks and containment of nicotine- they become more aware of the impact. Many students do not understand the health and addictive nature of vaping. Can we encourage all parents and carers to have this conversation with their children. Many students we speak to are usually great at decision making, but have just not understood the seriousness of this behaviour.

We wanted to give you a few quick simple tips around exercise and how it can help us with our mental health and well-being. Exercise is a great way to give our bodies a quick pick me up and to feel better and clear our minds!

*Taking the time for a quick 15-20 minute walk is a good way to de-stress

*Find someone you feel safe with as an exercise buddy mum/dad/brother/sister/friend)

*Reward yourself when you have finished your exercise, whether it be walking the dog to playing netball, give yourself a pat on the back or watch your favourite tv show

*Try not to scroll through your phone during exercise enjoy the moment if you’re outdoors watch the trees blowing in the wind and enjoy the fresh air!
