YEAR 7 - CAMP REFLECTIONS

The year 7 camp started on Monday morning. We packed our bags on to the bus and off we went. We were going to the Summit Outdoor Adventure Park in Trafalgar. The bus ride on the way there was pretty noisy there were lots of people screaming and yelling but it was fun. We arrived at the camp after 2/1/2 hours at around 12:30 pm. We unpacked our bags and then it was time to do the activities.

My two favourite activities were the leap of faith and the summit window. For leap of faith, you had to jump of a 12-metre-high platform on to a bar out in front of you. It was not the scariest, but it was fun, and I liked seeing everyone accomplish their goals. My other favourite activity was the summit window, you could see Mount Baw Baw and it was an amazing view. For this activity you had to climb up a 24-metre-high tower, then you would step on to a platform that hung over the side of the tower, you would then climb up a pole to a smaller platform above the tower. Once you were up there you either had the option to let go with both hands and one foot or you could come back down. I decided to go with the first option and I’m glad I did because it was incredible.

There were lots of challenges in camp, like the mud run. The mud run was challenging because we didn’t just have to run through the mud, but we had to do challenges along the way. One of the other things that challenged me was the summit window. When we climbed up the tower it wobbled and creaked the whole way up. Then when I got to the top it was wobbling like crazy. I’m not scared of heights, but I still thought the tower was going to collapse. Something that helped me were the 5 keys. The 5 keys are; play all in, get comfortable being uncomfortable, make mistakes, have fun and don’t go home saying “what if.” Another thing that also helped me was that I set my self a target, stretch and a super stretch.

Overall camp was a blast. I had so much fun and I learnt so many new things. The food was amazing, the activities were amazing and everything else was amazing as well. I feel like this camp has boosted my confidence and I have also leant to be a better team player. I look forward to using all the skills that I learnt at camp back in my normal life and school. The camp staff were really nice and I would definitely go back there.

At the summit the day we got there we were assigned cabins to sleep in. After we set up our cabins, we went to do our first activity which was the Bush challenge, we climbed steep hills and climbed a wall that was about three metres high with no rope or bricks to pull up on, but we finished it in about 20 minutes.

The next day we went under the best activity, the glorious giant swing. It towered above any other tree or any other physical thing in the area. As I slowly was raised to the top of the giant swing which overlooked the summit and for brief seconds, I felt calm. But seconds later the rope was pulled and we were going about Mach 10. After that nothing could top the majesty we knew as the giant swing.

Then we did the laser skirmish which was one of the most fun activities by far. During the laser skirmish I died about twenty times, but it was a lot of fun.

Overall camp was amazing I would do it again if I got the chance to.

On the 21/2/22 I went on camp with all the Year Sevens, we went to the Summit, that is located in Trafalgar East. My class 7E went on the bus with 7F, it took us about 1 hour and a half (90 minutes) to get there, going to the Summit I sat next to Charlotte! We got there at around 12 o’clock, I settled into my cabin quite nicely. The girls were in the cabins and the boys were in the tents, I was in cabin 4 with Charlotte, Mia, Makayla, Estelle, Abi, Lucia and Daisy. When we settled in, we got our lunch boxes out and started to eat, we could eat wherever we wanted except the out of bounds places that they told us not to go in.

I did lots of activities like the rock wall, the rock wall is a wall that has yellow and red wood bricks on it that you had to try to climb up with a harness on. If you got to the top you had to ring the bell. When I did it, I got to the top and rang the bell, there were not many people in my group who made it to the top!

Some of my favourite activities were the summit window, it was 23 metres high! I climbed and climbed all the ladders to get to the top and when I was climbing, I could feel the tower shake! I got up there and the instructor clipped me in. I started to climb the pole, I was a little bit nervous, but I let my hands off and I also took one of my feet off the pole. It was worth it because the view was so beautiful, I am so proud of myself!

Estelle and I did the big swing together, it is the biggest one in Victoria, and we went to the top! Everyone was saying that the harness hurt them, when Estelle and I did it, it really hurt, but when you are gliding through the air and breathing in nature, you don’t focus on it hurting, you focus on having fun and swinging in the air just enjoying life!

The second day we did the monster run, you must work as a team in this one, you get very muddy and swim in mud! I loved the part when you and a partner had to swim in the mud with the barbed wire on top of you. When we finished it, I was so proud of myself and my team, but then we had to do it again, and when we finished the second time, I was even more proud of both myself and the team. On the 23/2/22 we went home, but before we went home, we got to watch a crushed car being run over, it was so cool! We got on the bus around 1pm, I didn’t sit next to anyone on the bus ride home. We got to school around about 2:40pm. We couldn’t leave until our parents were there and the teachers could see them. This was one of my favourite camps that I have ever been on. I made lots of new friends and I had the best time, I would definitely go there again! 😊

Feelings

The camp was fun we got to do activities and learn different skills and luckily got to sleep in the cabins. The cave was scary, I gave everything a go even the summit window the scariest activity. I was shaking so badly that there were butterflies in my stomach but I still went up there and gave it a go. At the end I felt exhausted and tired from all the activities.
