Welcome to Literacy in Year 2
This week, Year 2 have been reading ‘Eye-to-Eye’ by Graeme Base. We have enjoyed exploring the beautiful illustrations by delving deep into various environments and seeing ‘eye-to-eye’ with a range of beautiful creatures. We have responded through fictional recounts, sequencing parts of the boy’s journey and creating artworks of an animal of our choice that we’d like to see eye-to-eye with!
“‘Eye to Eye’ is a great book because it is all about the power of imagination and the young boy goes on many adventures. I am loving writing my own fictional recount based on this story.”

“We loved reading the Eye-to-Eye” book because we loved guessing what animal would be on the next page!”
“We give this book two thumbs up!”
“What I like about the book ‘Eye to Eye’ is how beautiful the illustrations in the book are and you can explore the boy's imagination. It is so great to have an imagination to bring you into a happy place.” Fleur L
Young Leaders Day - A Report from our Year 6 students
On Tuesday the 8th of March the School Captains, Colour Captains, and Year 6 SRC attended The National Young Leaders Day at the International Convention Centre at Darling Harbour. The speakers on the day were Bronte Campbell, Josh Pyke, Anthony (Harries) Carroll , and Lachie Smart. We learnt about the experiences of these people, and how we can use the lessons they learnt in our own lives as leaders.
Anthony (Harries) Carroll:
Anthony Carrol is the Lifeguard at Bondi Beach. He spoke to us about the importance of mental health and resilience. He spoke about what he would do if he was having a bad day or if someone else if having a bad day he would help. Anthony mentioned that there are a lot of challenges that lifeguards have to face each day which is between a cut arm to a near death experience but they just have to move past it. He told us how important it is to talk to people with disabilities and mental issues.
Lachie Smart:
Lachie Smart is the youngest person to fly around the world solo. Lachie talked to us about the preparation for his journey. Lachie smart took two and a half years to plan, gather sponsors and train for this journey. He told us how only when he started to be himself, did he get his first sponsor- after a year of trying. He reminded us how important it is to be yourself. In addition, he told us how his biggest downfall ended up saving his life. We remember that sometimes our biggest mistakes can be our greatest achievements.
