Youth Leadership Conference

On Wednesday the 23rd of March, the MSC College Captain team had the wonderful opportunity to attend the National Youth Conference hosted by Halogen. Over 3000 student representatives from hundreds of schools, both primary and secondary attended the event, filling the South wharf exhibition Centre.

The day was filled with videos, interactive games, music and performances, with one of our own College Captains, Maiana Cameron being selected as a volunteer to act as the world hide and seek champion, for a mock guest speaker presentation. We also had the privilege of hearing from guest speakers: Cate Campbell, Lachie Smart, Guy Edmonds and Damian Fleming. Each speaker shared about times in their lives where they had to be leaders and how they persevered.

Our biggest take away was that there is no singular way to be a great leader; great leaders can be resilient, determined and passionate people who lead with fun and dare to dream.

We are so grateful to have been given this opportunity and would recommend it to any young person within our community looking to be a leader.

The College Captains, along with the year level coordinators,  interviewed and appointed the 2022 College Captains Council.  The Captains were presented their badges by Mrs Stanton during Connect.

We proudly announce the Captains Council which is led by our College Captains as:

The first Captains Council was held last week and was chaired by one of College Captain, Maiana Cameron.

Captains discussed potential charity ideas and overall the meeting was very successful.  The charity the college will support this year will be announced at the start of Term 2.

Captains have been working with Wellbeing Team and representatives from the Mornington Youth Centre to revive the Rainbow Group - which is a LGBTQ+ support group

College and Year Level Captains assisted with Open Night, welcoming guests as they entered and assisted staff on the tours of the College answering questions and talking about their experiences at the college.

Year 7 Captains have commenced selling Anzac Day badges at recess and lunchtime amongst the student co-ohort with great success.

The Captains Council is really looking forward to the upcoming year.
