From the Principal

Term 1 has been very busy for our students.

We have had both our swimming and athletics carnivals and competed in the Division Swimming championships. We were:

  • Overall Boys Champions
  • Senior Boys Champions
  • Senior Girls Champions
  • Intermediate Boys Champions

Hands On Learning is in full swing, with 30 students attending from Yr 7-10 throughout the week.  The students have begun to make planter boxes, so they can grow vegetables to sell to staff and possibly at the market on a Wednesday. They start their day with breakfast and a planning meeting to discuss the days events. They cook lunch together in the Cottage and have already started to form very positive relationships with their peers and staff.

VET Construction Pathways occurs every Tuesday for 16 students and soon they will begin to participate in practical projects.

The Headstart program has enrolled a number of students at Year 11 and 12.   The Headstart students are working in industry 2-3 days per week, whilst continuing to participate in their VCE/VCAL subjects.

Students in Year 9 participated in Morrisby interviews. Each student spoke to a careers counsellor online about future pathways. The interviews were based around the surveys each student completed early in February.   “My Career Insights” is a program for all Year 9 students in Government Secondary Schools. Students complete a series of online questions and quizzes (on the Morrisby Profile website). They receive a profile report showing the results from the questions and quizzes, and possible jobs that match their abilities, interests and personality and have a one on one 30 minute meeting with a Morrisby trained Careers Consultant.

The meetings were held via weblink. 188 students have had their meetings so far this year, we are currently organising catch up sessions for the remaining students.  In the meetings students discuss the report and the consultant may make some updates to reflect students feedback.  Students can login to their Morrisby account to review and share with families.

Here is a link to practice questions. This really gives you an understanding of the assessment and how complex it is:

All students are participating in the CONNECT program every morning. Two days per week, they participate in the Resilience project. The last few weeks, the focus has been on ‘empathy’. CONNECT is very popular and both students and staff are enjoying Academic Best conferences which began this week in English and Maths classes at Yr 7 and 9.  Students will have a 1:1 conversation about their progress so far by looking at their data. Learning goals will be developed and shared with parents during Parent/Teacher interviews next week which will be held online.

Owen Norton was the recipient of the Frankston and District Junior Football League Total Workwear Young Club Person of the Year 2021.  He received this award  because of his contribution to Mornington Auskick, his ongoing commitment to volunteering on and off the football field, his dedication and support of his football club and the surrounding community.

Year 10 student Owen Norton recently had a fantastic opportunity to meet with the St Kilda Football Club and get a team photo as recognition of his achievement.

Open night was held on 3rd March. It was fantastic to see so many people on site genuinely interested in what the College has to offer. More than 200 people attended and the vibe was very positive.
