Arts and Technology
The Arts/Technology area is thriving with activity. To see what the students are making, creating, analysing, designing and evaluating is really exciting to be a part of.
This month’s focus is Media Studies and Wood Technology.
A lot of student work will be displayed on Open Day/Night. So, if you are free on Wednesday 27 April and would like to come to school to further appreciate the work the students are doing – it would be great to see you.
Media Report
I have the pleasure of teaching students in Years 9, 10, 11 and 12 Media! In today’s report, I’ll start off with the awesome Year 9 students. Year 9 Media students kicked off the year by deep diving into Genre in films.
Interestingly, many of the students were compelled toward the genre of Horror and War.
Their first CAT entailed writing a film treatment which is a one-page outline of their story that includes the characters and their journey; a tagline (a one-line teaser for their film) and creating a film poster using Photoshop.
We looked at various films in different genres including Drama, Comedy, War, Sci-Fi and Horror - (Coraline!) We looked at famous posters such as the one for Jaws and many Alfred Hitchcock’s films whose posters were designed by the great Saul Bass. We also looked at famous tag lines on film posters including one the most iconic one of all time for the film Alien: In space no one can hear you scream.
If I were a big-time Hollywood studio head, I would absolutely Green Light all the films they pitched!
The Year 9 classes are about to shoot the famous dual scene from the Sergio Leone Western, The Good, the Bad & the Ugly. Photos from the shoot next time!

Design Technology and Materials - Wood
In Design Technology and Materials the Year 10 students have been working on their joinery skills to produce a final project. Their CAT 2 is a completed Serving Tray finished with two of the joins they have learned during the term. These images are some of the students working diligently on their own designs.
In Year 9 Design Technology and Materials, the students are undertaking a project for an end user. This project required students to build a storage caddy for basic household objects such as remotes, headphones etc. The students have come up with their own designs and have planned and mapped how they are to build and complete this project.

Scoresby Band
On Wednesday 16 March, our VET band and Mr Schurmann performed at lunch time for students. They played a few songs and sounded great, especially their rendition of 'Yellow' by Cold Play.
