The Year 8 students are in the midst of their second unit which requires them to write a fractured fairy tale in the form of a play.
Students have learnt about the three types of fractured fairy tales: subversive, inspired and cross-over, and explored the techniques involved with play writing including how to write a prologue, stage directions and creating engaging and dynamic dialogue.
This form of writing is a first for many of our students, but so far they have thoroughly enjoyed working collaboratively in developing ideas, and beginning to put their ideas into action.
Please read below some prologues from the Year 8 students Fractured Fairy Tale unit.

Once upon a time, on a dark and stormy night high in the rocks lay a den. Inside the den laid two cubs both fast asleep oblivious to the storm outside; one cub small and scrawny and the other muscular and tall. Lightning flashes and the two cubs jump up shaking and run to their father, Mufasa lays into him while Scar lays off to the side slowly falling back to sleep. Scar was always the misfit and thrown into the shadows, while his brother got all the attention. He could always count on his only friends, the hyenas but never thought that one day they would turn their backs on him. Will Scar get his revenge, or will he live forever as the unloved son?

With the creation of stories birthed a new beginning, where fairy godmothers are real and talking animals were the norm. Throughout this tale you will find, as Tiana lay sleeping, the children not so much… deep in the museum of ‘magical’ items, you will find a door of puzzlement, within the door a ‘magic’ stone is said to lay. Some say this is an old wives’ tale, but some still believe: in magic of old and trees that talk.
