Thank you for the opportunity to introduce myself. I am Suzanne Tate, and I have joined the Scoresby Secondary College team this year to teach VCE Studio Arts, VCE Visual Communication, Art and Visual Communication.
I completed my teaching degree at Melbourne University with a major in Photography and worked as a Portrait Photographer for the next 10 years. I then returned to teaching and have been teaching Art and Technology now for 22 years. I have taught art at every year level from prep to year 12. I also have a degree in Museum Management, and I am currently undertaking a Doctorate in Education at Monash University.
As well as Photography, I enjoy painting and ceramics, but my artistic passion lies in working with molten glass as a Lampworker. I make glass beads and small sculptures, which are often made into jewelry. I also love the performing arts and am involved in theatre through performing and reviewing. I enjoy cooking, and as part of my other hobby, medieval re-creation, I prepare feasts for up to 200 people.
I live in the Dandenong Ranges with my husband and our menagerie – 2 dogs, a cat and a carpet python.
I am really enjoying my time at Scoresby so far. I am impressed with the student’s behaviour and positive relationships with staff and look forward to educating, nurturing and encouraging their inner artist!
