Leader of Learning & Teaching

Will Lyon

G’day MCC community!

Firstly, I would like to provide some more clarity around the release of year 12 reports. The final reports for the class of 2022 will be released at the end of the term in line with their final day at the College. Teachers and leaders are currently making the final alterations to the reports. I would also like to take this opportunity to wish that our senior year group enjoy responsibly the final weeks of their schooling careers.

Luck and well wishes continue as Year 11 commence their final preliminary HSC examination period – the culmination of three terms worth of senior studies across a multitude of courses. They are about to embark on a difficult but hopefully rewarding and insightful examination journey. On behalf of the teaching faculty of the College, we wish them well and good fortune during their examination period. To year 11 directly, I would like to borrow from the Indian cricket superstar Virat Kohli speaking on the power of self-belief; “Self-belief and hard work will always earn you success” You have got this year 11!

The teaching faculty are continuing their professional development journey as they continue to refine their pedagogy. KLA faculties have recently had a third meeting in their numeracy learning cycle. Where members of the numeracy working group led faculties through numeracy specific content creation and implementation in order to better facilitate numeracy growth across stages 4   and 5 (years 7-10). Across all faculties engaging and informative discussions were held as the teams developed and refined learning tasks. We look forward to gauging the impacts of their numeracy tasks in the coming weeks.

Last week as I sent out surveys to the community to gather feedback on how the College utilises digital learning platforms. I would like to thank the College community for their engagement in the digital platform surveys your perspectives are valuable and will help decide the direction the College takes with digital learning platforms in 2023.

Finally, I would like to introduce myself. I joined the Marian community in 2016 as a HSIE teacher. I was fortunate enough to be made a Middle Leader as the Leader of the HSIE faculty in 2019. From 2019 until 2022 I along with Ms Kathy Sparkes have led the HSIE faculty. With the retirement of Mr Alan Le Brocque I was successful in applying for the Leader of Learning and Teaching position for the remainder of the academic year. I look forward to helping direct the learning and teaching of our great community.

Until next time,

Mr William Lyon

Acting Leader of Learning and Teaching.
