Deputy Principal's Report
Book Week Parade
St Finbar's will be holding our annual Book Week parade tomorrow, Friday 19th August. We ask that all children come dressed as a character from any book. It is helpful if the students bring along a copy of the book that features their character. We ask that the costumes are easy, fun and no fuss.
After the parade, the students will work in cross-age groups on a variety of activities related to some of the Book Week books. Each class is also designing their own poster related to one of the books.
Lamont Book Fair
The Lamont Book Fair starts this week. Each student will have the opportunity to browse the selection of books and they will bring home a wish list of books that they would like to purchase...parents may then choose to purchase these books or not.
We will have opportunities for parents to browse the Book Fair as well. These times are:
Friday 19th August 3pm - 4pm
Monday 22nd August 8:30am - 9am
Location : School Library
Thank you to Narelle, our library technician for coordinating the Book Fair.
Child Safe Standard 4
In this week's newsletter we will look at Child Safe Standard 3:
Child Safe Standard 4 – Families and communities are informed, and involved in promoting child safety and wellbeing
- Meet the Teacher event in the first week of school for parents to share ways that their child can be supported in their new classroom.
- Disseminating information pertaining to child safety in the weekly newsletter
- Teachers and parents communicate via email, phone or in-person if and when wellbeing issues arise
One thing that has emerged through our recent staff discussion is that we need to look for ways to include parent input into our policy development.
Staff Professional Development
We've had a busy week of professional development for teachers in the Wellbeing/Child Safe area.
On Wednesday Elias Karageorgiou from the Resilience Project led an early morning meeting for the Wellbeing Team, with many other staff also attending. He helped us to interpret and understand the data from the Resilience Survey that our Year 3 to 6 students completed earlier in the year.
Later in the day, classroom teachers spent time exploring and discussing the Child Safe Standards and how we are demonstrating our commitment to them at St Finbar's.
Go Girl Go For IT!
Twenty of our Year 5 and 6 girls attended the Go Girl Go For I.T. careers expo at Deakin University today . The girls heard from Sharon Samson from ANZ who talked about her her love of technology and coding, and her career journey. They also learned about how the 'cloud' works from some Google staff and ended with the tradeshow...this was a highlight with loads of free giveaways.
