Around the Primary Classes

Kindergarten

Sylvia’s father, Yoav,  is a tree specialist and he spoke to us during Science week.

We learnt that Tasmania has the tallest flowering trees in the world and we also watched the ABC program recently aired in which Yoav discussed the importance and health of our forests.

What else has been happening?

  • The students have found several fossils in the creek bed at Bush Kinder sparking impressive recall of facts about fossils, dinosaurs, etc.
  • In Book Week, author Sally Odgers talked to us about being a writer and read to us several of her books.
  • We dressed up in book week costumes which fostered delightful play.
  • For our 175 years celebration, the students learnt the story of the young Irish nuns travelling from Ireland to Australia to help poor children in hospitals, jails, and schools.

Year 4

It has been a busy, fun-filled, knowledge-building few weeks in Year 4!

This term we have been exploring the history of Mount Carmel College, by learning about the Sisters of Charity. We have built our understanding of who the Sisters of Charity are and developed our understanding of how the Sisters contributed to changes in the local community. We have aimed to represent the mission of the Sisters of Charity within our own lives, by reflecting upon and considering how we can enact the mission of the Sisters of Charity. Here are some images of us, expanding our knowledge of the Sisters of Charity and contributing to their mission!

Book Week has seen us further expand our love and joy for reading in Year 4. We created a fun door display, celebrating our favourite books! We eagerly participated in the Book Week Parade and shared the reasons why we chose the character we did, to dress up in!
