Principal's Report

Courage, Faith, Love

Dear Parents and Friends of St Agatha's Primary School,

R U OK today?

Yesterday was R U OK day. Staff all wore a splash of yellow to mark this day and to promote mental health. How often do we really understand what is going on for people? Students, staff and all community members carry with them burdens that are often untold. Today is a terrific reminder to walk gently and to be kind to everyone around us.

This week we have also celebrated Child Safety Awareness. Earlier in the week, students viewed a video about body parts and what to do if anyone felt uncomfortable in physical or verbal interactions with others. Students were reminded about their Safety Hand where they identified helpful and safe adults who they can talk with at school when they feel uncomfortable. I encourage you to speak to your child at home about the safe people they

have identified who they are comfortable to speak to.

An area that the teachers have been working with students regarding child safety is in the area of Racism. Child Safe Standard One which is; Organizations establish a culturally safe environment in which the diverse and unique identities and experiences of Aboriginal children and young people are respected and valued. St Agatha's meets this standard by encouraging all students to express their culture. For our indigenous students, we ensure all meetings begin with an Acknowledgement of Country. In our Arts Week that is coming up in week three of term four we will have indigenous dancers to promote the aboriginal culture.

Next week, we will launch a Google Form that students can use to inform the school if they are having troubles at school with friends. The form will be monitored by our Student Wellbeing Leader Mr Andrew Butler and will then enable him to act quickly to assist any student who may be experiencing social or emotional issues.

Thank you to all the beautiful students at St Agatha's today who made my day by smiling, waving and saying hello! We have such a wonderful community and I am very proud to be the principal of St Agatha's School!

Have a terrific week,

Michelle Bruitzman
