Japanese News

Wow! What a wonderful term for learning Japanese in St. Anthony’s! I’m always reminded just how amazing our students are; they have a curiosity and love for languages which is a huge factor in their success in Japanese.

Foundation and grade 1/2 students learned to name several fruits and describe them as ‘yummy’ or ‘yucky’ in Japanese. Our focus in the early years is mainly on oral language development and it’s wonderful to see the junior students attempt to use Japanese whenever they can outside of class.

Grade 3/4 students explored Japanese summer festivals as August is the month for summer festivals in Japan. They were so enthusiastic naming the different objects and activities you might find at a summer festival - well done! They created an uchiwa and origami happi as part of their learning.

Grade 5/6 students are beginning to delve into grammar this term and they created simple sentences to introduce their friends, family members or people they admire. We also had our second online language exchange this term with students at our partner school in Japan, Fuchuudaijuu Elementary School. It was a wonderful opportunity for students to meet students in another country and communicate in another language. The grade 5/6s worked hard in the lead up to this exchange and represented our school admirably. They should be very proud of themselves! 👏

Please enjoy the photos and videos of student learning from this term.
