Senior School Gifted And Talented Enrichment (GATE) Program

A select group of Year 8 Students participated in an inaugural Global Academic Challenge in Semester 1, 2022.

We are pleased to announce that one of our students, Isaac Armstrong, achieved an exceptional result in the Reading Challenge, receiving a High Distinction with Honours in the competition. 

Certificate Award Winners

Our students achieved impressive results, especially considering the impact of the last few years with learning. Certificates are awarded for High Distinction with Honours, High Distinction, Distinction, Credit and Participation. 

The Global Academic Challenge is a new competition from the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) for students in Mathematics, Reading and Science. The competition is an International Schools’ Assessment (ISA) and uses schools around the world since 2002 to obtain data in the above subject areas.

The Challenge gives students the opportunity to sit questions of an international standard, to compare themselves against global benchmarks and to stretch themselves beyond the curriculum. 

ACER Chief Executive Professor Geoff Masters congratulated participants on their performance.

“We are delighted that so many schools took up the opportunity to participate in the inaugural Global Academic Challenge, especially given the challenges Australian education faced this year,” Professor Masters said. “We offer our congratulations to every student who participated.”

(ACER has been involved in the development and administration of large-scale international surveys like PISA and brings this experience in international assessment to the Global Academic Challenge.)

I would like to add my special congratulations to the Year 8 students who participated in this competition. May you continue to strive for excellence, find creative ways to apply your understanding and seek to be the best learner you can.
