Foundation

It has been another week of fantastic learning in Foundation LW. This week concludes the end of Term 3 and wow, hasn’t the term just flown by so quickly! Congratulations to everyone for continuing to develop your amazing skills of being collaborators, communicators, thinkers, researchers and self-managers. We really have had so many learning opportunities throughout the term:

  • The Fire Ed program presented by Brunswick Fire Station
  • The excursion to the Traffic School
  • The excursion to Scienceworks
  • The incursion run by Life Saving Victoria
  • Circus Lessons
  • Book Week Parade
  • Father’s Day stall and breakfast
  • And the  major highlight of celebrating 100 Days of School

Last week, as inquirers we found out about the purpose of R U OK day. It is a day to check in on people and to ask them if they are ok. As a class, we decided that every day is an opportunity to check in on our friends and to make sure that everyone has someone to play with or talk with at recess and lunch time.

We were introduced to the dotted third lines last week. We have been most resilient and persistent learning the skill of placing the upper and lower case letters on the correct lines. Each day our handwriting is improving as we concentrate on this important skill. Mrs Wenckowski is extremely proud of all of us!

Thank you to the parents for your continued support throughout Term 3. Wishing everyone a restful two week holiday break and I look forward to everyone’s safe return on Monday 3rd October. Fingers crossed there are many sunny Spring days during the break where we can all get outside and enjoy the beautiful weather!

Year 1/2

We can’t believe that the last week of term has come around so quickly. Time really does fly when you’re having fun!

As mathematicians, we continued to focus on strategies we could use to solve multiplication problems. We explored multiplication as repeated addition, made ‘groups of’ objects, and used arrays to help us reach our answers. Some of us even made array cities!

As explorers, we went on an array hunt to see where we might be able to identify arrays in real life. We found some very interesting items in the school yards! Check out some of our pictures here.

During Discovery Time, we continued to unpack the learning asset of ‘thinker’.  As thinkers, we were curious and courageous in the way that we asked questions about our ideas. We showed and shared our thinking in different  ways and made plans for what we were going to do during our time in Discovery.

Some of us engaged in the Shapes Station, where we discovered more about the difference between 2D shapes and 3D objects. As focused learners, we made our own shapes and described their characteristics.

Others collaborated at the Shopping Station. As mathematicians, we handled money and change and worked out the price for items. We worked together to make sure that we were running our shop fairly. We had lots of fun!

We continued to be researchers at the Australian Animals Station and learned more about the glorious animals that we have in our beautiful country. We were keen to share this information with our peers and teachers. Check out some of our Discovery Time Learning here!

As the term nears the end, we want to thank all the students for their enthusiasm and love for their learning. You make every single day exciting and we love to be part of your learning journey! Thanks to all the families for their support this term. We can’t wait to see you back at school in Term 4!

Year 3/4

On Tuesday 6 September, the year 3/4 students participated in an engaging incursion called ‘Democracy, Community and Me’. This term we have been learning about our big question ‘Who decides and how?’.

During the incursion students explored the fundamentals of democracy and government in Australia. We examined the difference between rules and laws and how they are made to benefit the community. We participated in a mock-election to the local government with costumes and props. Some of the students volunteered to take the role of Councillors and residents to voice their opinions in the debate to better understand the democratic process. We had such a fun time and we thank David from Linked Incursions.

We can’t believe how there is only one week of school left!  School holidays are just around the corner.

Year 3/4 Teachers

Belinda Panzarino, Katarina Davidson and Graham Troy

Year 5/6

Ten weeks are almost gone, the term is almost over and holidays are fast approaching!

The students have been involved in a range of learning activities this term and are now very busy organising the final touches to the Science Expo for Wednesday.

The students will demonstrate how science contributes to a healthy and active community. Using the Inquiry Process, the students have researched, designed and created a product or system that contributes towards keeping everyone  healthy and active. In small groups, students have focussed on a particular area of interest. These areas include Science of the Mind, Sport Science, Environmental Science and Food Science. Students have also  been involved in creating a fair test of their product/idea which required them to test all but one variable when attempting to answer a scientific question.

The students are now at the stage of ‘Going Further’ in the Inquiry process, by showcasing their learning. Each group will have a booth where they will showcase their learning, sell their product/idea and have some sample tasting.  All proceeds will go to a charity of the students’ choice. It is also exciting that everyone has the opportunity to showcase their learning with the junior school as they will visit the Expo during the day.

Parents and carers are invited to join us on

Wednesday, September 14th,

in the Senior Learning Area from 10am onwards

to learn about the student’s amazing scientific inventions.

We would like to thank and praise our students for a wonderful term of learning that has been exciting and engaging. We thank our parents and carers for their ongoing support in Term 3. Have a safe and restful holiday. See you all in Term 4.
