Week 10 Term 3

Dear Parents and Carers,

I can not believe the end of the term has arrived so quickly. It has been two years since we have had a full Term Three of learning. This term has seen many successes and learning experiences for our students despite the challenges of COVID restrictions.

Thank you to all the parent volunteers, the Parent and Friends' committee and the school community for supporting our children throughout the term. Your presence and support make us a strong working community. To all the teachers and Education Support Officers who ensure that your students are our top priority, I thank you for your dedication, support and patience throughout this busy term.

Experience Music Recital

On Friday, the Experience Music students wowed us with their musical talents. It was a fantastic night celebrating music.  This was our very first musical recital since the students started lessons. We were all entertained by the beautiful playing and singing. The musicians did a great job playing in front of a big audience for the first time. Well done to all the musicians and a big thank you to Marie, Ces, Caleb and Michelle from Experience Music for their support and dedication to the students.

Our New School Vision

Last week the students and staff presented our new School vision to the parent community. It was a wonderful morning celebrating the exciting new vision we have for St. Fidelis. We started the morning with prayer and a gospel reading and then the students presented beautiful pieces of art that encompassed our school's values.  For the families that were unable to attend our assembly, we will send out a digital presentation of the morning for all to enjoy.

Message from Manuela

Dear Parents and Friends,

Indigenous Cultural Immersion Tour

As mentioned in the newsletter in week one of Term Three, I am attending an Indigenous Cultural Immersion Tour in Darwin this week, alongside 29 other Principals from the North Central Zone of Melbourne.

We will be visiting Darwin and Arnhem Land. We will cross three of four different countries during our week and learn about the differences in culture, land, and beliefs. We will have an opportunity to meet an Indigenous family (who will teach us about the land and culture, plants for medicinal use, basket weaving, playing the didgeridoo  and throwing a spear (just to name a few things).

The tour is the culmination of the Professional Learning undertaken by the NCZ Principals Network through 2021/2022. This opportunity will allow me first-hand experience to deepen my knowledge, understanding and appreciation of Indigenous people; their spirituality, culture, connection to land, art, music, sport and story. I look forward to sharing my experience with the staff and community as we continue our journey of reconciliation with First Nations people.

Thank you to Vira and the leadership team who have taken on the responsibility of running the school in my absence this term.

I wish all the families a restful and safe holiday and I look forward to an exciting fourth term. Please keep up to date with all the activities and events in the newsletter and Skoolbag app.

Kind regards,

Manuela

P.S. We arrived in Darwin Sunday early evening and experienced the wonder and awe of Our Lord with the most glorious sunset I have ever seen!
