From the Chaplain

On Thursday morning, my oldest daughter came into the kitchen to tell me that Queen Elizabeth II had died.  She had found out from seeing a snap on social media. I could not help but shed a couple of tears. Being a Pom myself, I had always liked the Queen. Whenever someone asked the question of, ‘What famous person would you like to meet?’ I would always say the Queen.

Queen Elizabeth II was a Christian lady and spoke about her faith in nearly all her messages to the people. One of her last well wishes that she wrote to the Lambeth Conference says:

‘This time is a time of great need for the love of God – both in word and deed. Throughout my life, the message and teachings of Christ have been my guide, and in them, I find hope. It is my heartfelt prayer that you will continue to be sustained by your faith in times of trial and encouraged by hope at times of despair.’

The Queen appeared to have great compassion for the people and identified with their despair. The Queen knew that it was Jesus who was giving her strength and hope for her life to keep going and she wanted this hope for all of us. Although it is sad that the Queen has died, it is also a time for rejoicing as she is with her Lord, Saviour and King. The Queen has put down her crown and is giving it to Jesus. It makes me smile to know how her old body is now able to run and dance like she was young again.

Philippians 3:21, ‘But there’s far more to life for us. We’re citizens of high heaven! We’re waiting the arrival of the Saviour, the Master, Jesus Christ, who will transform our earthy bodies into glorious bodies like his own. He’ll make us beautiful and whole with the same powerful skill by which he is putting everything as it should be, under and around him.’
