ARTS

Arts Week 2019

"Last week was the week of the Arts, where students were able to have fun and enjoy all forms of art. It was amazing to see many students coming to the lunchtime events and express themselves through performance and visual arts. On the Thursday the assembly began with a smoking ceremony that was a very enlightening experience for everyone. A didgeridoo was played to greet us as we entered the gymnasium and a beautiful Welcome to Country ceremony left us all extremely excited and appreciative about the arts. Overall, the week of celebrating the arts and its way of unifying us all together was a success. Thanks to everyone for getting involved and enjoying the arts."

Katerina Psevedokonimou Arts Captain

The Arts is a way of connecting us to ourselves and each other. A way to know and understand our world. What an honour and inspiration to celebrate our Arts week with a smoking ceremony performed by a Boonwarrung man from the indigenous custodians of the land the school is on. David Tournier explained the meaning of this traditional cleansing ceremony and invited us to participate as he burned wet eucalyptus leaves and reminded us how ancient this custom was. This was followed by some magnificent didgeridoo playing by Sean Ryan as we all gathered in the gym for assembly and Janet Galpin, a Boonwarrung woman did a welcome to country. It was a celebration of the oldest living culture in the world. Thank-you to Daniel Moss for his support and to Christie Shaw for filming this historic event.

There were lots of highlights during Arts week beginning with a beautiful guitar performance by Andy Zhong for the staff first thing Monday morning. Thank-you to Daniel Moss for organising this.

The year 10 Drama class started the lunchtime activities with their monologues which were well received by a large audience of their peers. There was portrait drawing with Ms Sarakisis and Ms Andrews, Fidget spinning with Mr Karailis and Year 8 silent movies with Ms Hebbard and Ms Trinh.
