College Annual General Meeting 2019

From the Principal

Dear Parents and Friends,

I am pleased to announce that Brighton Secondary College has been selected to participate in the Principal Preparation Program. The program, which is run by the Department of Education and Training, and the Bastow Institute, seeks to prepare candidates for Principalship. The program involves a course of study and an internship. Selected schools are asked to provide internships, which is what we will be doing. We should celebrate the fact that being selected to do this work by the DET brings both recognition and honour to the school for our contribution to system development and leadership.

Mr Stuart Kerr, who is currently a Leading Teacher at Mt Erin Secondary College, will be joining the school as Intern Principal for the whole of term three. This means he will be working very closely with me in all aspects of school operations. For example, if you meet with me during term three, it is very likely Mr Kerr will be there as well.

Whilst Mr Kerr will be learning from us, the benefits are reciprocal. Mr Kerr brings a fantastic opportunity to the school to bring someone into our community who has some strength areas that will really help us achieve some of our goals. He will be working with school leaders and managers to develop their skills in using data to inform their practice, as well as some work in developing systems to access parent voice.

I am sure you will extend a warm welcome to him, and give him the courtesy and respect befitting someone of his position in the school.
