Sayembara Lisan (speaking competition)
Following the efforts of our students at the regional Sayembara Lisan (speaking competition), three students were successful in gaining spots in the finals. Unfortunately, one student was unable to attend because of the discomfort of new braces but two others made the trek to the Sidney Myer Asia Centre at the University of Melbourne on Saturday the 2nd of June.
- Isabel Smith won her category of Year 8 Beginning Indonesian against some very talented young people.
- Mena Alabdullah placed third in the Year 8 Continuing Indonesian category against very stiff opposition.
Congratulations to both students, who represented the College with distinction and achieved amazing results.

French Speaking Competition: Le Concours Nicolas Baudin 2018
Every year the Alliance Française de Geelong organises a prestigious French speaking competition for all schools in the Geelong area, the Concours Nicolas Baudin. Matthew Flinders has been a proud participant in this competition since it began and this year our participants were Sasha Copic, Eyrian Morgan and Isabella Scano of Year 9, Sarah Garlick, Jade McKentish and Annie Stephens of Year 10 and Abbey McGeady of Year 11. These hardworking, dedicated students gave up countless lunchtimes conversing with the French teachers, working on their general conversation skills, preparing answers and perfecting their pronunciation!
As always, the standard of competition was extremely high and everyone involved is to be congratulated on their efforts. Particular congratulations go to Eyrian and Isabella who came second and third respectively at the Year 9 level. Felicitations!! C’est magnifique!!
