Community Fair

Do you know what's happening on Saturday 19th October? Our COMMUNITY FAIR! Yes we are already in planning mode and organising stalls and all the things that go with it!  Foundation are going to have one stall with two items.  We will have BASKETBALL SHOOT OUT and SNOW CONES. Let's get excited! This is the first year we've had a basketball shoot out and when kids are hot and thirsty from their shooting they can cool down with a nice cold SNOW CONE!  Of course this is only going to run smoothly with the help of our wonderful community.  Please let me know if your family can volunteer only a short amount of time (an hour) on the day eg: AM or PM.  Check out the paper version of the FAIR NEWSLETTER for up-to-date information.  Regular newsletters will be sent home so keep an eye out for the information.

Term 2 is here!

After a staggered start to the term we are all back into the swing of things.  Learning goals are upon us and students are familiar with school values and high expectations for learning.  There is lots on the calendar with our first event this week - Open Night.  Students loved the thrill of being at school near dinner time and seeing the sun go down whilst at school.  It was great to see families come and share dinner during the break and sit in on the last session for the day.  Thanks for taking part in our Twilight Open Night.  The other event was Cross Country.  It was a great experience for the students to run their first laps at Elizabeth Bridge. Lucky we had a window of dry weather.  Thanks so much to our wonderful parent helpers - your help doesn't go unnoticed.  We are very grateful.

LITERACY - students are developing their writing knowledge as they engage in writing recounts from their holidays. We've had a large focus on students ability to map sounds onto letters and transfer that knowledge to their writing.  So many students say "how do you spell.....?" We encourage students to use their sound and letter knowledge to write down what they know and think about words.  When students are confident with the alphabet and the sounds letters make it plays a large role with their confidence. This is an important platform for students to be able to go further with their writing skills.

Well done to students who have established a home routine where they read every day or night.  If we establish home routines now where they see a purpose for learning then we are setting our children up for life long learning and success.  It's been fantastic to see so many students move up the levels as they read their Magic Words. Some students are well on their way to reading 100 words by the end of Term 2!

MATHS - Last week students explored data and practised answering yes or no to questions regarding the data. Students worked collaboratively to solve problems and demonstrated their understanding of different data we could collect.  This week we've recognised, continued and created patterns. Check out some of our work.

Friendly Reminders

UNIFORM

Students are not to wear long sleeve singlets or skivvies under their school tops. The heaters are on in classrooms during the winter months and jumpers should be enough for outside.  Please check lost property as we have had to put 2 bomber jackets in there this week UNNAMED.  One was a brand new one.

Please ensure that students wearing hair accessories have them in our school colours - RED & Black.  Nail polish is not a part of our uniform policy and will need to be removed before the school week begins.  Thank you for your understanding.

Timetable

We've had some slight timetable changes.  Check out the following:
