Oakleigh Grammar House Athletics Carnival

Our athletics season kicked-off in late March with the Oakleigh Grammar House Athletics Carnival. Students had the opportunity to represent their House in a variety of Track and Field events. Some outstanding performances were achieved, and many long standing Oakleigh Grammar Athletics Records were broken on the day.

Well done to all students who represented their House and to all Middle & Senior School staff who helped run the House Athletics Carnival Day.

This year we included a new event into the Athletics Program. The ‘Oakleigh Grammar Gift’, which was a 100m race featuring the winners of the 100m event from every age group for both boys and girls (similar to the famous Stawell Gift). Students’ starting positions were determined from their 100m age group winning time (slowest started closer to the finish line compared to the fastest times). Congratulations to Ethan Brown of Year 8, and Sarah Burnett of Year 12, winners of the 2019 Oakleigh Grammar Gift for boys and girls.

The results of the Oakleigh Grammar House Athletics Shield:

1st Place: Rose House - 631 points

2nd Place: Fraser House - 607 points

3rd Place: Bradman House - 589 points

National Schools Event - Adelaide

This year’s much anticipated National Schools Event was hosted by St George College in Adelaide. The NSE involved seven Orthodox schools from around Australia - three from Sydney, one from Adelaide, one from Perth and two from Melbourne (including Oakleigh Grammar).

Oakleigh Grammar selected a large team of 48 students ranging from Year 8 to Year 12 who travelled to Adelaide for the Games Week in May.

The sports involved were boys and girls Basketball, Futsal, Table Tennis, Volleyball, Girls Netball and Boys Soccer. The Sports Tour also involved official functions, a cultural event, a dinner dance and sightseeing.

Congratulations to our Girls Table Tennis Team (Vasilia Tamvakis, Stavroula Sideris, Christine Koutsioulis and Yiana Tamvakis), who remained undefeated throughout the tournament, and were crowned NSE Premiers.
