Recycling for the Future

Recently we've seen our Year 10 students make an example of what can be done to reduce our waste well into the future.

Bench seating made entirely from soft plastics arrived at the school and have replaced some well ‘loved’ timber bollards and barriers used as casual seating.

The benches are set to be maintenance free, extremely long lasting and obviously environmentally friendly.

The students who brainstormed the fantastic idea to help the community are part of Miss Timmers SEALP class. Maddie Bithell, Stuart Morrow and Katelyn Radmanic were the brilliant students involved in coming up with the concept.

Approximately 390,000 pieces of plastic packaging have been saved from landfill with our purchase of recycled plastic products!!

Ms Powson and the Principal team, approved the furniture quickly after the students strong pitch. They were purchased through an organisation named Replas. A company whose sole aim is designed to turn soft plastic waste into usable furniture and equipment.

”With plastic use on the rise, we need to create a sustainable community that reduces, re-uses and recycles plastics. At Replas, we see waste as a valuable resource, and are part of making this world more sustainable”

The installation of the new recycled benches is just another example of the commitment our school and students are making to ensure the sustainability of our future.

Leading by example and aiming to generate more resilience amongst our students in being able to tackle the issues of the day.

The beginnings of our Bush Foods Garden

The Gardening Club got cracking last Thursday and ripped up and out a huge amount of old rosemary from an unused garden bed behind the Home Eco rooms.

The club donated their lunchtime to glove up and get it done! Charlotte Carswell, Caleb Gebert, Genevieve Janssen, Ella Walker were all involved, as well as Karen and Pete from Home Eco.

The club are helping to pave the way for our Bush Foods Garden to be utilised by anyone and everyone in the school. We are currently brainstorming ideas to develop this space into a really educational fun space. Stay tuned for more updates!

If you, or someone you know at the school wants to become a part of all the green action, 'The Green Team' is meeting every Monday lunchtime in Room 1.  Everyone is welcome.
