PI Day

Pi day was a celebration of the mathematical equation pi, pi is a mathematical term which is shortened to 3.1415, it is used to find the area of a circle and the numbers are infinite. Pi day was a celebration were you didn’t have to be a genius to participate it was to learn while having fun creating a great environment. There were many activities to participate in which were all fun and exciting and many chances to earn prizes, one of the many activities was the relay which was when we had to answer a series of worded questions in groups from our class which gave us a great opportunity to learn and strengthen bonds with our classmates. Pi day though it had activity’s for Year 7s wouldn’t have happened if it were not for the Year 8s and 9s.

Another group of people who made this day happen were the math teachers especially Mrs Ditcham.

Pi day also included a Aussie tradition the Australian meat pie. We also had representatives from each class to try remember as much of pi as possible which many efforts were astonishing as some of the participants got over 50 digits which is amazing. Pi day was a day for people from all different skills to learn together in a fun experience.

Pi day was an opportunity for people to have an understanding of Pi. The whole year level had a chance to participate in the activity day. The students were split into four groups, and competed against each other for the rewards that were to be handed out at the next assembly. There were four activities, the amazing race, letters and numbers, the relay and the quiz. The four activities were held in different places around the school. Every period, we were to change activities, whether it be in the hall or function room, we were all excited.

The amazing race was held in the hall. We had a number of challenges to complete, like the tv show. The QR code reader we had to download on our phones was important as most of the challenges were made via QR codes. The first team to win were awarded point for there homeroom.

The second activity was letters and numbers in the function room. We had mini games such as flip the coin, and the card game, where you were to select a corner. In the letters round, we had to make words out of random letters, and in numbers we had to make an equation out of the numbers we received. Overall, it was pretty good.
