Child Safe School Committee and Student

Sub-Committee

In line with Ministerial Order 870, St Bede’s College created a ‘Child Safe School Committee’ in late 2016. The committee’s primary focus is to ensure that each student attending the College is safe in all dimensions of their schooling, home life and personal development. The committee has met regularly since its inception and has worked hard to ensure that the school’s policies and procedures satisfy relevant Child Safe Standards. The introduction of these standards form part of the Victorian Government’s response to the recommendations of the Betrayal of Trust report, which found that more must be done to prevent and respond to child abuse in the community. The committee’s ongoing members include Scott Cadby (Wellbeing Counsellor), Sophie Gonzales (Wellbeing Counsellor), Jenny White (Wellbeing Counsellor/Coordinator), Mark Jones (Deputy Principal) and Luke Green (Deputy Principal). House and Year Level coordinators will have a one year rotating term on the committee with Geoff Harrison (Year 9 Coordinator) and Mel Lyons (Benilde Coordinator) being valued members in 2018.

Starting this term we have also created a ‘Child Safe School Student sub-Committee’ who will provide valuable input on this topic from a student’s perspective. Student’s on the committee this year include Romolo Esposito (8.3), Jakob Anderson (8.6), Liam Crisp (9.1), Elijah McEvoy (9.2), Michael Bilos (10.8), Matthew Dunne (10.14), Aaron Arthur (11.38) and Jonathan Clark (11.30). The Student sub-Committee is facilitated by Scott Cadby.

St Bede's College 80th Anniversary Celebration

Thank you to all who joined the celebration at Woodlands Golf Club on Saturday 4 August  to mark the 80th Anniversary of the College.

The night was a great success with over 220 people attending, including current parents,  staff members and past students.

On arrival guests where presented with a college pen and the night began with a welcome speech by Mr John Finn.    Photo boards surrounded the room showing some of the history of the College and a short video was displayed.  We then moved onto a fun filled night with dancing and catching up with friends.  The venue was flooded with the colours of St Bede's and a Jubilee cake was cut to mark the celebration.  The cake was kindly donated by the Jones family, and very much appreciated.

A  professional photographer was available on the night and any photos purchased were provided with a commemorative photo holder.

The P & F would like to thank the 80th Anniversary sub-committee for making this night possible, Anne Easton, Nancy Gibson, Dana Honey, Jodie Szapirko and Dayle Uberti together with all members of the P & F  for supporting this event.

We would also like to thank Nadine Roberts for her generous production of the invitations and flyers.  Congratulations St Bede's!
