Curriculum Matters
Level 4 Phillip Island Camp
On 30 October the Level 4's left Wheelers Hill and had about a 1 and a half hour drive down to Phillip Island. Once we got to Phillip Island Adventure Resort we found out all of the cabins and had some free time just to get used to who we were bunking with. There were 5 activities including raft making, canoeing, circotron, archery and lets not forget the 18m high giant swing!! On Wednesday night we visited the penguins and it was extremely cold. On Thursday night it was movie night and we watched Mr Popper's Penguins! Everyone had a great time and enjoyed the beautiful weather.
Level 5 Kamishibai
For the past couple of weeks, two level 5 classes joined together and partnered up and made a kamishibai together. A kamishibai is an old Japanese way of telling a story by using detailed illustrations and having an amazing writing piece. There were some challenges though as we had limited time to finish, and the story had to match the illustrations. Mr Holden kindly made us a kamishibai, which holds the illustrations. It could’ve been tough for some people as presenting is not their strong side and some people had to present in front of Mr Oakey and Mrs Stewart! Over all, this was a really exciting experience and we would like to thank Mrs Maisey for bringing this fun idea to the level 5’s and Mr Holden for making the actual kamishibai.
Foundation Community Excursion
On Wednesday 13 November the Foundation students went on their Knox community excursion. Students travelled by bus to Knox Shopping Centre where they donated gifts to the Kmart Giving Tree. They also visited the Brotherhood of St Lawrence where some students donated unwanted toys and books. Then we walked to Tunza Fun where we all had tons of fun! Students enjoyed driving the bumper cars, especially when they crashed into their teachers! They had fun playing the many arcade games and we saw a few future basketballers! The highlight of the excursion was the climbing walls. Students demonstrated the school values of resilience, respect, excellence and definitely lots of persistence when climbing the very high walls. It was wonderful to see students stepping out of their comfort zones and trying new things. Everyone; students, teachers and parent helpers thoroughly enjoyed the excursion.
