Athletics

We will be holding a special “trials only” athletics day in order to select our interschool team. It will only be for students who registered an interest to trial. The majority of our students will have a normal school day. The trial competitors will be published on Compass prior to the day.

We are in the process of selecting a suitable day and will announce it shortly.

AFL – Intermediate Boys and Girls

Both our Intermediate teams came up against a very strong Sunbury team who proved way too good for us. Both teams put up a respectful effort and provided a good game.

Soccer

Yr 8 Boys and Yr 8 Girls - Western Ranges level

Both teams could not match the specialist soccer schools at Region level.

Netball – Senior Girls/ Intermediate Girls – Western Ranges

The senior girls were very impressive at the first level of competition, totally dominating the opposition.

Game 1 – def Kurunjang 63/8

Game 2 -  def Sunbury Downs 32/16

Game 3 – def Sunbury 33/9 in the Division final

The Intermediate girls did well defeating Kurunjang but lost to Sunbury.

Netball - Senior Girls- Western Region finals

A sensational effort by our senior girls team against some netball schools in the State who have big reputations (and the history to back up these reputations). To win at Region the way they did was exceptional.

1. def Maribyrnong 20-11

2. def Strathmore 31-20

3. def Williamstown 27-13 in the Region final

Off to the State final in early September. Before that, we go to a separate competition - the Victorian Schoolgirls against mainly private schools and the major Government schools on 19 August.

Basketball - Senior Boys Western Ranges

The senior boys tried hard but were no match for the others in their pool losing to Gisborne, Kurunjang and Sunbury Downs.

Cross Country

Congratulations to Yr 7 Olivia F for the result she achieved at the Victorian Cross Country final. In her first attempt at this level, Olivia performed extremely well to finish 32nd out of over 100 competitors from all over Victoria.

Squash

Our senior girls tried to win their 6th consecutive State Squash Championship. They came up one match short losing the State final to Balwyn High 1-2. Balwyn had 2 State reps so we were up against it, but the girls put up a wonderful effort. The team was Ebony C, Abby F and Alannah S.

Hockey – Western Region final – Senior boys /mixed.

In order to produce a competitive team we need to add younger students to the senior boys team so the team is a mixture of boys and girls from Yr 7 up who all play hockey at club level and they have to compete in the senior boys competition, so obviously we are at an immediate disadvantage. This does not worry our kids at all and they again competed very well drawing with Northern Bay, losing a close one to Suzanne Cory and finding Maribyrnong too powerful. As two of the main players are Yr 12 and will be leaving we look like we will be able to drop the team down next year to the intermediate boys level which will suit us a lot better.

A special thanks to Melton Hockey club and Mrs James for their support with the use of some gear and transport.
