Year 7-9 Fast Track: Year 9 report

On the 22nd May, physiotherapist Lauren Campbell from Optimal Health Lab came to visit us at The Lakes to talk about her job and her role in the sporting industry. She spoke to us about her day to day life as a physio. She also spoke about her education and what she had to complete at university in order to be a physio. She talked about injury prevention and rehabilitation. Lauren ran a Pilates class with us and took us through different exercises. Each exercise had a specific role in helping our body to strengthen and perform better. Overall it was a great experience, we learnt a lot from her and had lots of fun.

On the 1st May, we were very lucky to meet two inspirational Commonwealth Games Australian athletes. Josh Beaver, a 200m backstroke swimmer who won medals at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games and won bronze in the recent Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast. Josh also swam for Australian in the Rio Olympics and is one of the most experienced Australian Swimming members. The other athlete we got to meet was Joseph Deng who is a middle distance runner. He made his first Australian team at the recent Commonwealth Games and made it through to the 800m finals. He had overcome a lot of injuries during his short career, moved from his home in Queensland to Melbourne because he felt it would be of greater benefit for his training and had initially emigrated from Africa. It was great to hear their life stories and about their experiences as elite athletes.
