Fast Track: 5 - 8 Reports

5/6 Fast Track report, by Devony H:

In Fast Track this year, we have been working on many things. In Term 1, the Fast Track teachers organised some people to come down to help the girls’ footy skills. We started with handballing, then bouncing and lastly kicking and marking. We did this program for about 8 weeks and this really helped us develop our footy skills. I really enjoyed the footy sessions and so did my friends. We played games such as footy island, keepings off and footy cricket.

This term, we are working on touch rugby and athletic events such as triple jump, shot put and the start of a sprint. We focus on doing the technical part of the skill correctly as this will help us at future events. We are also working on touch rugby. Nat has taught us about passing and the rules. We have played matches to learn about this and it has been really fun.

Every term we work on the sport of the next interschool sport so we are prepared for upcoming events. We have basketball and hockey coming up and I am really excited about Fast Track for the rest of the year!

5/6 Fast Track report, by Andre L:

This term we worked on making our own training skills session based on a sport you play. We had to record it and show our knowledge of the skills in the sport. We also worked on athletics events such as shot put, sprinting and triple jump. We tried new sports such as Hockey 7s. We had training sessions with Mat to get familiar with the sports and have been able to play the sport in different teams which has helped us learn many new rules.

Everyone has been doing really well; the boys focusing on Hockey 7s and the girls with Touch Rugby. We have even done volleyball tournaments and worked on the key skills and tactics linked to the sport. Fast Track has been really fun!

Year 7-9 Fast Track: Year 7 Report

Fast Track in Semester One has been very exciting. We have learnt a lot and we’ve had the opportunity to be part of many exciting activities that relate to our learning.

On Tuesday March 20th Year 7 - 9, Fast Track went to Latitude as part of a Fitness Components Unit. It was so much fun. One of the challenges was to walk on a tight rope with a harness which tested our balance. Another great activity was rock climbing which tested our Strength and Power. We also played a dodge game that needed us to use our Reaction time and Agility. We played a gladiator game knocking people into a foam pit from the platform which tested our strength and balance. Everybody enjoyed the Latitude excursion, it was a great way to learn about Fitness Components.

Year 7-9 Fast Track: Year 8 Report

The year 7-9 Fast Track girls have taken part in an online leadership program run by Cricket Victoria. This program helps young females develop their leadership. The program includes interviews with female athletes explaining how they show leadership both in sport and outside of sport. We also completed activities and answered questions about how we show leadership. The program has helped us improve our leadership skills and taught us to think about how we can use these skills at school with our peers and in the wider community. All Fast Track students were able to develop our leadership skills when we planned and organised the events for Prep – Year 3 on Athletics Day, it was great working with the younger kids.

Year 7-9 Fast Track: Year 8 Report

Students in Year 8 & 9 Fast Track had the opportunity to complete some recognised training with St Johns First Aid. The day was split into 3 sessions. In the first session we learnt many things such as CPR, how to properly give compressions and how to give mouth to mouth without contact. Session 2 focused on how to apply bandages, how to be safe from infection and how to help a person who is having a stroke. We were given a mini First Aid bag which included bandages, slings, alcohol wipes, face masks and a card with the Drs ABC’s. The final session saw us learn about the law and about consent when assisting a person with First Aid. The course was well worth completing because we can keep this information for the rest of our lives and know how to apply First Aid if needed.
