Year 7 & 8 Camp

Year 7 student, Jandrei, shares his experiences from Year 7 and 8 Camp:

On May the 30th, many Year 7 and Year 8 students  boarded the buses going to The Island Camp, Cowes at Phillip Island. The trip was around about two hours and had a pit stop at San Remo to see the pelicans. After a few activities, we were given the rules and safety procedures. And we were given our cabins. I was with my friends: Jun, Jonno and Zaki. Throughout each day, we had time to just relax. We were able to stay in our cabins, go outside and play, or go in the recreational room. After settling in our cabins, we were called to lunch.

At night, we then hopped on the buses again and went to see the Phillip Island Penguins even though it was heavily raining. In the end, we saw around about 50 penguins, all in separate groups. They were on the beach, running up to the waves and getting swept away by them. After 20 minutes, everyone was soaking wet so we decided to go back.

When we had dried off, we enjoyed dinner and did a trivia about music, movies and more. Unfortunately, my team came last.  By the end of the night, everyone was tired and it was time to go to bed.

The next morning, we were put into groups depending on our cabins and did separate activities like:  mechanical rock-climbing wall, giant swing, archery, circatron and more. After lunch, we went to a beach near the camp’s location and had a sand sculpture competition with a “Phillip Island” theme.

In the evening, we had a talent show featuring comedy, dance and music. We were even treated to some comedy from our teacher Rob at the end of the night.

By the last day we were all quite tired. We did our last rotation of activities and had burgers and icy poles for lunch.  I loved Camp, not only because it was some time out of school with friends but because we had fun everywhere we went. Everyone respected each other, we were pushed out of our comfort zone and we followed the rules while having a good time.
