Education Week:

Celebrating The Arts

Education Week 2018 was a terrific opportunity to celebrate the achievements of all our students in The Arts.

At this year's Education Week Arts assembly, the Preps shared their rhythm stick songs with us. The Year ones showed how they can sing songs and use Auslan signs at the same time. From around the world we visited many countries when the year twos played the song 'I am the Music Man' each playing unique world instruments. The year threes impressed us with their own hand made percussion instruments. They shook them carefully using dynamics to make ocean sounds. Then to finish off they sang and played a beautiful Autumn song. Finally, some year four speakers shared about the inspiring learning they've been doing in their Performing Arts rotations this year. Here are some of their experiences:

“In Music this semester we've learnt how to play instruments. I liked the song that Claire showed us called ‘Pass the peas’ because it was really funky and cool. Did you know there’s a group of people who improvise music. They don’t know what the other people are going to play. And they communicate by looking at each other and soloing. They speak through music”.

Ben M Year 4

“In Music this semester we've learnt about instruments that you can make yourself. They resembled guitars and percussion instruments. My group made a guitar with bells in it.

I liked that we got to make our own instruments.

Did you know you can make a guitar out of a plastic container with rubber bands and bells?”

Lexi D Year 4

Our community also enjoyed viewing visual artworks by students from Prep to Year 4.  Among the pieces were self-portraits from the Preps, abstract art through music by Year 1, complimentary colours from Year 2, chalk pastel blending from Year 3 and perspective drawing projects from the Year 4s.

In Art we traced our hands and feet then drew our body and it looked like we were falling.

Harmony O, Year 4.

This term, we drew a falling in space project. We drew our body smaller to make it look further away.

Daman P, Year 4.

In Art, we drew a falling in space project. We learnt how to draw our faces. First, you draw the shape of your face, then you draw lines in the middle to help you line up your eyes, nose and mouth. We lined our ears up with our eyes.

Daniel L, Year 4.
