EXAMS AND REPORTS
It is a busy time of year with exams and report writing in progress. Even after the exams, it is important that the boys stay on task and continue to apply themselves so they do their best.
SCHOOL ASSEMBLY CONGRATULATIONS
Last Monday those students who had put in a special effort for the Walkathon were honoured. Any boy who raised more than $150 or ran more than 12 kilometres received a certificate. Special mention was made of Jonah Gonzales for raising the most money and Toby Thornton-Bott for doing the most laps.
All the boys put in an amazing effort with the Junior School raising $12,444.40 for St Mary’s Bowraville, St Joseph’s Walgett, Callan Services and our World Vision sponsored child - a great example of Christian values/ Edmund Rice Education in action.
YEAR 5 KOKODA TRACK MEMORIAL EXCURSION
An Excursion has been planned for your son to attend The Kokoda Memorial Walkway, Bray’s Bay Reserve, Concord on Friday 18th November 2016. The Excursion builds on the HSIE study conducted earlier this year. The students learnt about life during the Kokoda Track campaign in which Australian soldiers fought during WWII. The learning is topical with Kokoda Day 3rd November and Remembrance Day 11th November. The excursion consolidates learning around the College's Kokoda Expedition Immersion Experience planning that occurred this year and which the boys may wish to participate in when they are in Senior School.
The three Year 5 classes will travel by bus, departing school after roll call and returning by 3.00pm for students to access transport home. Sports uniform is to be worn. Students should bring their morning tea, lunch and a water bottle on the excursion. Lunch will be eaten in the Bray’s Bay Reserve parkland surrounding the Memorial. Class captains are asked to wear school uniform and bring sports uniform to change into following the photographs of them laying a wreath of remembrance.
Each student will be asked to place a poppy replica alongside a plaque commemorating the life of one of the serviceman who served on the Kokoda Track in 1942. Each student will then be tasked with researching the historical service of a veteran from a specific battalion or unit from the Rose Garden.
Additionally NSW RSL may like us to provide some photographs of our students at the Kokoda Memorial for their website and newsletter. No student names will be associated with the photos unless otherwise requested.
If you do not wish your son to be in any of the photos provided to NSW RSL, please indicate this via email to tlong@stpiusx.nsw.edu.au with subject line: YEAR 5 KOKODA MEMORIAL EXCURSION by 14th November 2015.
