Basketball

Last Wednesday our B Teams played mid-week games against St Gregory’s. Of note were our 2nds who had a great game against a big and talented St Greg’s Firsts. Despite facing some tough opposition in the first four rounds and no wins to date, the 2nds have been working hard at training and are definitely heading in the right direction towards a win. Fingers crossed. They have also been down two players due to major injuries. The 14Bs and 17Bs both had good wins against St Greg’s As last Wednesday.

Once again we had some very exciting games on Saturday with three one-point wins and the 6ths, 17Cs and 17Es all with cliffhanger finishes. Exciting stuff - keep up the good work. Well done to the 15As who ticked off their first win for the season.

Game time changes: There have been a couple of game time changes from my original draft.

  • The 17Ds now play at 11:00am this Saturday at Oxford Falls.
  • The 4ths now play at 12:00pm this Saturday at Oxford Falls.
  • The 14Ds now play at 1:00pm this Saturday at Oxford Falls.

B Teams: Please note all players will need to organise their own transport to Moss Vale this Saturday. All games are at Moss Vale Basketball Stadium - Parkes Road Moss Vale.   Do not go to the school.

Game of the day: 17Cs in overtime just managed to sneak past St Andrews 17As with only seconds to spare. Charlie Hammond was the key to an exciting victory with some quick attacking play.

Plays of the Day: Matt Chicco (15As), the “And One” master. Matt top scored for the 15As.

Deserves a mention:

Ben Kafer (13A), Erec Bacic (14A), Paul Manga-Zoa (14C).

Members of the 15A, 14A and 13A team squads are invited to participate in a Mini Tournament on Friday 16th December commencing at 8am in the Chatswood Campus Gym. The purpose of the tournament is to provide some valuable game time to develop combinations and to coach the coaches to develop players and game sense. See Mr Brannan or your coach to get further details and confirm your attendance.

Players of the week:   Matt Hall (12) – 1st XI, 4/6 and Liahm Williams (10) – 1st XI, 47 and 2/7.

ISA Round 4 – 1st XI 10/120 (L Williams 47, J Unwin 29) defeated Central Coast Grammar School 10/22 (M Hall 4/6, L Williams 2/7, D Beattie 2/8) at Gosford.

Lots of rain overnight and on the drive to CCGS indicated a late or doubtful start to the 1st XI Round 4 clash. After some work by players and parents to get the ground fit for play the game started at 11am in blazing heat. Losing the toss and being asked to bat, the CCGS bowlers made the most of the wet and tacky conditions taking early wickets. Joe Unwin (29) and Liahm Williams (47) provided a solid back-bone to the batting and were assisted by Tim Robertson (10) and Dermott Beattie (8). 1st XI 10/120 in 46.3 overs. Liahm Williams (2/7 from 4 overs) struck in the first over of the CCGS innings and started a quick procession of wickets. Dermott Beattie (2/8 from 7 overs), run outs to Sam John and Will Roser all helped reduce the CCGS scoring ability. Matt Hall (4/6 from 5 overs) in a fiery spell put pay to the CCGS innings, 10/22. A most emphatic victory by the 1st XI.

NSTA – Update from Round 5

Last weekend was such bad luck with the weather, especially given the strong sun by late morning and the rest of the day. Unfortunately the timing of heavy storms in the early morning resulted in surface water and obvious pooling of water across the Talus St courts on inspection. A call to cancel play for the 10am session was made as late as possible, with all Convenors really hoping that play could proceed. In the case of wet weather days – a reminder again to please use the wet weather via twitter/website or phone the Tennis mobile that everyone has access to, rather than calling the courts directly. Wendy, who answers the phone at Talus St, will not be able to advise you of any cancellations of play given that she is not an SPX staff member.

The plan for this weekend is that we will be playing on Saturday. I will be emailing all players and parents/carers on Thursday with the draw when I have further information from Competition organisers. It is not clear at this stage whether Finals will proceed, based on 3 rounds of play, or whether a make-up of Round 5 will occur.
