House Points Update

The house points update was announced at Friday's school assembly this week. After a fiercely battled school handball competition last week, the house points now stand as follows:

1st   Merici  108 points

2nd  La Salle  91 points

3rd  Benilde   84 points

4th Ursula  80 points

New England Sports Awards

The recent Armidale Sports Council New England Sports Awards took place on Thursday, 14 November and a number of the College's students and past students were recognised for their sporting achievements. Four  O'Connor Catholic College students, Nathan Czinner, Jake McCann, Kieran Wicks and Liam Smith formed part of the Junior Team of the Year, Hockey New England's under 18 boys Indoor Hockey squad, who were Division 1 State Champions this year. 

Logan Dalli won the Junior Sports Star, Local category for his high point scoring playing for the Armidale Rams.

Tyler McCann took out the Junior sports star of the year award for his numerous hockey representations, including NSW (indoor and outdoor), North Coast and New England under 15 and under 16 Futsal and his selection for Futsal Australia teams.

Nathan Czinner was a junior sports star of the year finalist for hockey, being selected in the Australian schoolboy's squad and Australian under 18 indoor hockey squad.

Past student, Emily Wooster was a junior sports star of the year finalist for mountain biking having toured South Africa with an Australian development squad and gained selection in the Australian junior squad competing in the World Cup in Canada. 

Fellow past student Katherine Hosking was awarded the 19-34 years sports star of the year for claiming the national under-23 mountain biking title,  under -23s Australian representation at the World Cup in Canada and being awarded the  UNE sportsperson of the year for 2019.

Amber Barnden-Hyde - netball

Amber continues to celebrate successes through her sport of netball, with her recent achievement being her progression to phase 2 for State trials.

Caleb Dubois-Bender, Ben Harris and Alex McMahon  - Gymnastics

Caleb (level 4), Ben (level 6) and Alex (level 3) recently returned from the NSW State Men's Championship where they received Bronze medals in their overall score level.  Well done!

 Jake McCann - Hockey

Jake continues to perform at an elite level in Hockey and his recent selection in the under-21s NSW Blues Indoor Hockey Team means that he will be travelling to National Championships next year in January. A great achievement. 

 

Nathan Czinner - Hockey

Also in hockey, Nathan Czinner has been fortunate enough to be invited to attend a camp at the Australian Institute of Sport next March for outdoor hockey as part of the future squad. 

 

Emily Meehan - Mountain Biking

Emily competed in the under-19s NSW Championships and came 2nd! Well done Emily.

 

Olive Tutt - Mountain Biking

Year 11 student Olive Tutt recently competed in the under-17s NSW Championships and finished in 3rd place. 

 

Lucas Thornton and Harry Partridge - NIAS Rugby Tour

Congratulations go to Lucas and Harry for their participation in NIAS Rugby Tour of New Zealand in the school holidays. Lucas was named Team Captain in Christchurch which is a great achievement. Well done boys. 

 

Juliette Hamilton - Wakeboarding

In early January, Juliette will be competing in the National Wakeboarding Competition following her selection in the NSW Team. Once competing at Nationals she will go on to represent Australia,  touring with the Australian Team.
