Assistant Principal's Message

Movie Mayhem!

Save the date on the Calendar for our P & F fundraiser this term. Enjoy a great night, popcorn and an awesome family-friendly movie at O'Connor on the big outdoor screen on the 29th of November. Full details are on the College Information page of the newsletter.

Youth Mass

O'Connor students provide the ministries including welcoming, reading and music at the 5.30 pm Parish Mass at the Cathedral twice a term. It is a wonderful opportunity to gather as a family and enjoy a vibrant mass with contemporary hymns. Ms Menz often supplies pizza after Mass. The next Youth Mass will be particularly big this time around as our College Captains and Lasallian Youth Ministers will be commissioned. This Youth Mass will be on December 1, 5.30 pm at the Cathedral.

Presentation Day

The College Presentation Day is on December 6. The event takes place in the school gym. It is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the academic, cultural, community and sporting achievements of our students.

Lifesaving

Our students have the opportunity each year to gain qualifications with the Royal Life Saving Society. These awards range from Swim and Survive certificates to the Bronze Medallion. The program is designed to improve our student's swimming skills, fitness, awareness of water related threats and techniques for potentially saving lives. The program caters for swimmers of all abilities and is compulsory for students in Year 7 and 8. This includes some first aid including resuscitation. This will take place every afternoon during week 9 from December 9 until December 13.

Term 5 Activities

At the time of writing, students from Years 7 to 9 are selecting their activities for Term 5. Term 5 is our activities week beginning on December 16 and finishing when students break up for the Christmas holidays on December 18. Students are able to choose from a range of activities that are musical, crafty, arty, sporty, relaxing, community-minded and recreational. Some of these activities include surf qualifications in Sawtell, golf, movies, board games, cooking, Christmas craft just to name a few. It is a great fun way to end the year.

Year 11

Students in Year 11 are really becoming aware that their HSC Year has started and many of them have begun a cycle of their first assessment tasks. Spare a thought for them. They will be able to enjoy each others company as pilgrims on the Year 11 Retreat to Sydney in week 9 from December 10 to December 16. Eight Brave Year 11s (and 4 Year 10 students) are acting as O'Connor ambassadors at the Australian Catholic Youth Festival in Perth from the 7th to the 11th of December. The Year 11 ACYF pilgrims will then link up with the Sydney Retreat making for a tiring but rewarding week.
